Chocolate Stain (yeah, Really!)

Featured Replies

Anyone got any tips for removing an old chocolate stain from the seat covers in my fab?

It was a classic - dropped at home, transferred to car via bum - and it's one of those things I've kept meaning to sort out.

Anyone know a sure-fire way to get rid of it?

BTW - it wasn't my bum! :D

Your best bet is to go into your local supermarket and have a butcher through all the specialised cleaning agents available. Or possibly even Halfords...

You could try the kitchen paper and iron trick. Put some kitchen paper over the stain, and iron with a warm (not hot) iron. The chocolate (a good proportion of it anyway) should be melted and absorbed by the kitchen paper. Then clean with a spray-on upholstery cleaner.

Edited to say - found the following in one of SWMBO's books:

Chocolate: scrape with blunt knife and wash in hot detergent solution. If it still remains, sponge with warm borax solution (30g/570ml water). Rinse and wash.

This is talking about washable garments I think so I would skip the washing part and keep water to a minimum. The borax might help but there again may be too strong for the colours in car upholstery.

I have some water marks on my seats that I'd like to get rid of.. May come off with 1001 carpet shampoo? Time for an experiment :D

My advice if you have a friendly dealer is to ask them if they have any cleaner to get it off for you, they will have all sorts of industrial cleaner to valet new and used cars, My dealer is friendly (Winner Garage Cinderford) and removed a water stain on the white part of the RS seats caused by a water leak without any sign left. He even gave me a small amount some of the solution for my own use:D

If you try it yourself with the wrong solution you may make matters worse and fix the stain in the material.

Baby wipes from a 'Pound' shop are very good for removing marks. I always keep a box in the taxi. Doesn't get things too wet, and are good for getting general dust off. Even get marks off the headlining without leaving a ring.

Avoid or be very careful with stuff like 1001 or Vanish. They contain bleach. Too much and you'll ruin the upholstery.
