Damaged door mirror

Featured Replies

Someone decided to overtake a cyclist in a lane yesterday and wack the door mirror on the sister in laws' Fabia. The glass has popped out and the mechanism for the adjusting motors is damaged, but there's not a scratch on the mirror body.

The car is a 53 plate comfort estate, so the mirror unit is electric & heated.

I have enquired at one of the online breakers as I think the best way to go is to get a second hand unit and just replace the damaged parts. I have had one reply so far, which is about £44 delivered.

Does anyone know if Skoda supply separate parts or do you have to buy a complete mirror unit?

Thanks in advance.

Most VAG mirrors are in 3 parts- the glass, the mirror body with electrics, and the glass.

A complete electric heated mirror was £90 for the Leon, but since you don't need the cover it will be less I'd say, plus you won't need to paint it.

Hello moley,

Had my Fabia VRS door miiror replaced £76.30incl vat. and £35 to have top part sprayed red, and a fiver for fitting by Skoda, in February 2007.

Try a breakers yard would now be my suggestion.

I picked up a complete door mirror unit from a breakers on ebay for £26.50 delivered. It took a couple of hours to get the old one out and swap the out cover etc and refit everything.

She now has a working electric heated mirror again.

Well done moley, I'm all for DIY and saving cash.
