brake squeal

Featured Replies

Hi people I am currently suffering from front brake squael on my mk 1 octy vrs. have tried spraying brake cleaner and jet wash which helped for one day!

At recent service Skoda confirmed thay were just dirty and needed a strip and clean but wanted £135 to do this!!

I have changed discs and pads on different cars in past could anyone tell me what could possibly be different on the octy different tools etc or is it straight forward hours work? Also any recommended cleaners and guess i need to re grease after?

Cheers

Is there flaky or deep and polished rust on the wearing area of the discs? If so, you may need discs and pads.

If not, strip, clean, and reassemble with a smear of copper grease on the pad backplates. No problems as long as you've got the right spanners, star drives, allen keys or whatever. No special tools for the fronts, but you need a windback tool for the rear pistons.

No wear or rust seems just dirt, cheers for advise guess i know what im doing tmrw:thumbup:

I had brake squeal grind the lot. Was only rear brakes so took risk of driving with handbrake on slightly. 5 miles later.... And although smoking no noise whatsoever

You need a 7mm allen key for the front mounting bolts
