Stolen

Not much use but another goood reason to have a tracker on your car. Its not as expensive as you think, especially when you can transfer it from car to car.

As for where I leave my keys, I dump them anywhere as i know they can't off with the car even if they found them.

You're missing my point here Zoidberg. You DID think about where you were putting your keys at some point and now leave them in that place all the time. Should you have to do this? Are you proud to live in a country where you have to / had to do this?

Did your parents have to think about where they put their keys 30 years ago when they went to bed just in case someone broke in to steal them? No of course they didn't they never gave it a second thought because these things did not happen anywhere near as often. It was not just 'accepted' as something that may happen when you go to bed.

Yeah, but 30 years ago people didn't have as much stuff as they do now so there wasn't as much temptation to rob someone. 30 years ago the best a robber could hope for was some jewellery or some cash lying about, unless you had a Porsche on the drive.

Nowadays, as our standrad of living has increased (if you measure standard of living by acquisition of stuff) we've all got desirable cars, plasma TVs, DVD players, MP3 players, iPhones etc. etc. All easy stuff to lift and sell, and every home has them.

This rampant consumerism has fueled a belief among some members of society that these possessions are a right, rather than a privelege earned through hard work.

It's not good and it's not pleasant but it's something we have to adapt to because it's never going to change. Man has been coveting his neighbours possessions since we learned to walk on two feet. And there have always been scumbags. I think what I'm saying is that in many ways, we've only got ourselves to blame. If you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. :(

I'd still string the thieving ne'er do wells up by their balloons and flog 'em though

I leave my keys downstairs.....

.... on the cabinet right at the side of where my German Shep sleeps ;) by all means if they still want them then, they are a braver man than me lol

How much is not that expensive? i'm quite interested

Ya could just go for Black Jax instead by Clifford ;) and without the monthly payment... they wont get that far with it unless they know black jax is enabled and force you along for the ride :o

Basic Trackers start from around £400 fitted then you have to pay an annual or lifetime subscription charge. With these you have to inform the Police when your car is stolen. Not much good if its taken at night and you don't realise tilla few hours later.

Top end ones such as Tracker Response are around £1100 fitted with three years subscription. This is always monitoring your car, even if someone has your keys.

When you pay £10k+ for a car, its not much more money for the added security.

Would you really want a ragged, damaged and stolen car back? I wouldn't!

I'd be surprised if they could drive it any harder than I ever could/did

Besides if it is recovered you have the option of selling it at your own convenience and finding a suitable replacement, rather than trying to find a replacement vehicle in a hurry.

Cheers for the replies chaps, my local dealer have none in and he says good Fabia vRS’s are thin on the ground at the moment as people are keeping them now they have heard the new Vrs is going to be 1.4 petrol! A work mate has a nice one owner low mileage silver, one I am going to try to convince him he needs a change.

Not a good story to hear mate. I had my Astra VXR stolen a couple of months ago (brick through the door to steal the keys), on a plus note it meant I bought the Skoda!!!

Sorry to hear that - bit of a bummer!

Had my Golf GTI stolen from Appleton Wiske by lowlife monkey hangers (sure you know where I mean) hope they stay away from the Thirsk area!

I have a 3ft metal tube above every window in my house, for this very reason.

(you cant see them, but ins handy to know theyre there, just incase).

Did anyone see crimewatch last night? Some guys robbed a sercuricor guy as he was filling a cash machine at a bank. Made away in a stolen Black Fabia vRS on ghost plates...

Skodas are now being used as getaway cars!!!

Kev

i can never find my keys in my house so good luck to a burgler lol

You never know how you'd react if faced by a scumbag in your own home but I'd like to think (knowing a bit of the law) I'd use "reasonable force" (approx 20 punches to the face) and then hand them over to the cops. It takes some balls to break into someones house.

Not good as far as the law is concerned. Plus what if it's more than one on one?

Yes, usually a copious amount of drugs or adrenalin from a police chase or beating up someone for the car they've arrived in to steal yours will help them out.

I sold my my VRS and the guy who bought it used it in an attempted robbery

Anyway, if you leave your keys visible, then you make it easy for the thief - who then remembers how easy it is, and subsequently does it again and again and again.

DONT make it easy for them.

And if you go by the mentality that if the thief sees easy keys lying downstairs, he wont come looking upstairs, think again.
