scratch removal

Featured Replies

long story but i got a lot of scratches on the bonet of my silver vrs has anyone used halfrauds scratch repair kit or know of a good repair kit it needs to be sorted cause it is really doing my head, car looked lovely before some little **** reuined it with in 2 seconds my heart fell outta my *** when i seen it it was proper gut wrenching.:(:(............

How deep are the scratches?

I have used Meguiars Scratch X to good effect on most scratches providing they are not too deep.

Failing that I have used Farecla G10 (I think it is G10) on deeper ones.

some of them are through the paint, tried turtle wax colour wax not sure if it's any good but didnt even do anything at all, ****ing kids and bricks that is all i will say

I know how you feel, a fried of mine was doing some work at my house and decided to get some tools out of the garage which were at the side of the Porsche - works overalls and a narrow gap..... you can guess the rest!

Fortunately, although they were deep they didn't go through the paint and I have improved them significantly, but I know they are there.

If yours are through the paint, then I think you need a body shop or at the very least someone like Chips Away, but even with Chips Away you need to take care as the result depends on the skill of the operator.

No experience of the Halfords kit I'm afraid.

if its gone through the paint its quite simple it needs to be re-spayed there is no magical product that will bring back the paint that has gone

what you can do is try and blend them as much as possible with a machine polisher but they will always be there...

for more advise on trying get the scratches out as best as possible or atleast try and blend them pm baker21 he is the man in the know:thumbup:

i have to agree with that if its past the paint there ant much you can do

mine got keyed noise to tail... its hart wrenching! if its light autoglym paint restorer. its a sensible cutting compound you can use buy hand.

best just getting quotes from body shops,

if your that botherd get the turtle wax couler magic with chip stik. it will make it less in your face from 3 meters or so but you will! still be able to see it when you look at the car.:(

i got the chip stix already but just wanted to try and make a better job of it. i think i will give the halfrauds kit a try and see what happens, it cant make it any worse, it will only be until i can afford to get it resprayed proper.

i could kill the little **** who done it ruined a really nice car!!!

The factory where I worked change over to water based paint for environmental reason the same as all cars manufactures are now using. This paint seems to scratch practically by looking at it and caused some quality problems. My car has lots of small scratches presumably by others rubbing against it in car parks etc. This is progress

I'm a current believer of Meguiars Scratch X 2.0. Its done wonders to my Touareg.

what chips away do is fill the scratch with body coloured paint until it's slightly proud of the surface, then very lightly sand it back flat and polish.

If you're going to be saving for a panel respray (and a bonnet shouldn't be much more than £60-100) then you might as well have a go with some paint yourself... (use a toothpick to fill the scratches - it's much neater than even the smallest brush!)

if you weren't so far away from me I'd have a go for you...:D
