Removing standard rear brace on Oct RS

Featured Replies

The standard rear strut brace in the Octavia RS is a real pain when you're trying to fit large items in the boot. Has anyone removed it and noticed a difference in handling? What tool fits the bolts that secure it?

Thanks

Richard

I would of thought if the Manafacturer put it on it's there for a reason and shouldn't be removed.

Its held on by a large TORX set. Your local motor accessory shop will normally have the Draper set with about 6 bits in it and a 1/4 to 1/2 inch adaptor. Cost is about

Do other 'more humble' Octavia's have the bracing?

I bought the rigid boot liner for my vRS hatch but think that it will need slight modifications to get it to fit properly...

No - only the vRS has the bracing. The vRS Estate comes with 16" rather than 17" wheels because of the lack of bracing and hence body rigidity. I would leave the brace alone. Which reminds me, whatever came of that rather natty stainless steel brace which one of our members made and loaned members to try?

Denis,

I had it for a while, and was quite impressed with it.

I passed it on to Jimmy, but sadly it does not fit the estate. Last i heard, Jimmy was planning to pass it on to someone else up this way.

I'll try and get it back for Anglesey, and give it a proper test around the track :)
