Felicia ABS

Featured Replies

I've had my 1.6 L&K for a long time now & in hindsight I'm pretty sure the ABS has never worked. The warning light has never come on when I switch on & I've never noticed anything happening on hard braking, but then I don't brake hard very often!

TBH I never knew it had ABS fitted until I noticed one of the cables to the front wheel sensors had come adrift. I then went on to investigate what the cable was for. Are there any checks I can make to see if it's working or broken?

stamp HARD on the brakes on a wet or slippery surface...You should feel the pedal pulse under your foot. If the wheels lock up, you don't have ABS working

Are you sure that the car has ABS in the first place? Unless it was a factory option, there is no way it would have passed an MOT with ABS (or even an ABS test/warning lamp) fitted and non-functional.

This wire might also/instead be for a brake wear warning light.

There is a separate ABS warning light to the generic warning light that illuminates for low brake fluid or brake wear.

Just get under the bonnet and have a look around the brake servo. If there is a black box with all the brake pipes coming out of it then you have ABS. Also look in the wheel arches for a wire going to the wheel (the ABS sensors).

My L&K has ABS and I think they all do/did.

Yes, it has all that but either the bulb has blown or it isn't working. As KenONeill said above I'm wondering how they never notice it at MOT's?

You do have to brake very hard to get the ABS to work I have found or just normal braking on a slippery surface will cause it to kick in. You will feel the pedal go light under your foot and you can feel it pulsing.

I think you could do with a scan with vag-com so check on the vag-com owners map to see who is near you who is willing to have a look for you.
