Xenon Headlights a real problem

Featured Replies

History

We purchased a new Octavia Estate L&K in Sepember 2004 and after 6 months the near side headlight often flashed and then went out if the lights are switched off and on again it then continues to work until the next time?. This seemed to happen when the temperature was cold. It went back and forth to Shoda dealers and they kept messing about and saying it was fixed. Ironically it always seemd to go off at the most inconvienient time like when a roadside vehicle check was happening. Evenually Shoda (After 2 years) did stop it from happening this was about 3 moths before the 3 year warranty ran out.

It is now happenning again and no-one seems to know why or how to fix it and I can't get the MOT until it is done. It has been suggested by the service centre to completely remove the system and re-wire in a replacement this will cost hundreds. I have been driving for near forty years and do not think that these new light have any better visibility than the old easy to replce halogen bulbs that cost less than a tenner.

If there is anyone out there that has any clues I would be please to have some input as this car has been superb for 5 years and the silly lights just let it down.

I had aftermarket HIDs on my A-Class. I could never be certain whether or not 1 or both lights had come on if it wasn't dark, when raining for example.

When it was dark and cold I could tell. The cold seemed to affect the ballasts and sometimes they wouldn't switch the lights on, or just 1 would come on.

This seems a common problem with cheaper aftermarket kits.

I know yous is Skoda fitment, but it sounds like a ballast problem.

Sounds like a ballast issue.

What did Skoda replace/fix previously?
