Who did you order it from in the end then?

I'm in exactly the same state of mind as you, in that I don't like the oval or oblong tailpipe designs that pretty much all of the manufacturers offer. They just don't look right to me, so god knows why they use them. Plus I don't need the 2.76" system, as I'm not upgrading the turbo.

I always knew about the Piper, but wanted to see if there was another 2.5" system with twin pipes, just for comparisons sake. So I emailed Milltek and asked them if they could make me a 2.5" system, attached to the backbox/tailpipes from their 2.76" system. The answer was a big no! So although the quality and look of their £466 2.76" system is superb, they're not getting my money!

I'm going to try Blueflame next, to see if they'll do a system with a Twin Fuji or Hockenheim tip. Their website says so, but what's on ebay doesn't look anything like what's shown on the website. My only problem with Blueflame is quality. The pictures on ebay don't do it any favours. I'm only judging this on what I've seen though, so might not be fair.

I've been thinking of getting the Piper system from Larkspeed in Leeds for a while now. So would be good to get your opinion on fit and build quality. I'd like to know what type of clamps they use etc.

Good luck with the fitting, get lots of photos!

P.S. Don't forget you need to cut the original system in half to get it out!

I ordered it from these chaps Motorsport World - Performance Car Parts discounts to be had on Piper exhausts at the moment too

As for how the fitting goes... I'll ask the guy who is doing it :o A friend of mine is getting his brakes done today by a mate of his and the deal was if I can leave the car with him all day (so he can slip it in when he gets a chance) then he can do it for beer tokens :D TBH I'm not so much worried about mates rates more the fact that the guy is a perfectionist and after 2 years of the stock wonky item I want the new one to be perfect :P

I've asked a friend of mine to grab some piccies of it whilst its on the ramps but I know he is flat out at them moment so I'll see what he can do :)

EDIT- Didn't realise the old one would have to be cut... there goes my idea of sticking it back on when I sell the car :o

EDIT 2- My other option was a Jetex system but again the off the shelf system came with an oval but it was possible to order the bits seperately which gave you the choice of tailpipes.

Rob, you wont be disapointed :D

The fit should be 100% spot on, if its not, then Piper will look at it for you, no question :)

Kind Regards

Oh I'm not worried about the parts, more the guy fitting them :P This guy is sound though so I'm sure it will be all good.

:D

Apparently the guy had trouble with a clamp... only got the info third hand so will find out what the problem was when I go to pick it up.

Looks great though and I've been told it sounds pretty nice too ;)

That looks really nice. Actully suits a silver car really nicely :)

Yummy! That looks really nice.

I'd be interested to hear about the clamp troubles. But it's no biggy as I'd probably source some proper stainless t-bolt clamps from Janspeed anyway. Or rob the fancy ones off my Suzuki!

Some underbelly photos and sound clips next please!! :D

I'd also like to know if it's two pipes from the backbox to the tail, or if it splits from one into two after the backbox?

PM Sent :)

Cheers Garry!

OK, it sounds great! Most noticable at low speeds, nice deep slightly burbly idle, no resonance in the cabin, silent at cruise, bit of noise when pressing on and some gurgles when backing off. Or to sum it up, perfect.

The deal with the clamps is that the threaded bolt on one snapped as soon as it got some tension on it, another fell apart on the spot welds and folded up and the other... well based on the previous two he didn't even try!

Going to buy a new rear hanger as its a bit too low at the moment (previous pic was a bit deceptive due to the angle) but I'm really chuffed with it!

Sound clips coming soon :)

Rob

Really pleased you like it mate :) I do love the sound and think they did get it spot on. Nice and subtle when you want it to be, but good and sporty when your in the mood :D

Was it the Mikalor clamps that the garage had trouble with? If so buy the sound of the description you gave i can almost say with 100% certainty that they were over tightened :( They are great clamps but once over tighted they just break, lol. I spoke to Mikalor about this and this, and i quote "Its a design characteristic" lol

Did you fit the supplied rear rubber as this should hold it up tight to the bumper (like mine) but old tired rubbers do make it drop. I have changed mine once already since having it fitted, i should look at seeing if there is a poly version on the market really :)

Pleased you like it.

Kind Regards

No there were no rubber hangers in the package so the garage re used my old ones :(

Okay mate. Let me give Piper a call and see if they can ship one to you.

Did you not get any rubbers at all? Just the clamps?

Well even my gf said that the exhaust "didn't look right" and if she noticed something car related then it must be bad :P

So off I went to my local dealer (I had tried another dealer first thing on Friday without success) on the hunt for a rear hanger. They only had one in stock and the guy brought it out to which I said "I don't think thats the one as it looks nothing like it" well... turns out it was the one, my original had stretched so much I didn't recognise it!

Anyway the new rear hanger was enough to raise the tips by a smidgen under an inch and it now all looks spot on :) (as you knew it would Garry ;) )

I've got before and after photos but my data cable is at work so they are stuck on my phone :o

Net result = one happy guy!

Excellent Rob :)

Glad your pleased with it all now. Now go and play with the loud peddle :-)

my only advise would be to clean the tailpipes at least once a week with Alloy wheel cleaner to get the road muck and grime off before it starts to corrode. Mine got quite bad and itook it off to machine polish it back to perfection. Now with a weekly quick clean it still looks like new. Bling! Lol.

Will do! I wasn't too sure what to use, when I cleaned the car today so I just used a damp microfibre cloth but it was only a little dirty. I'll give a squirt of wheel cleaner next time.

What a difference a new hanger makes, before...

and after...

The angle of the first photo actually makes it look better than it was.

Mmmmm...... wonder if the axle stand in the second photo helped a bit too :rubchin:

 I was worried about damaging it by letting it hang after the rear hanger had been removed (not sure if that would have been a problem but better safe than sorry huh?) so I shoved that under. Also helped hold the tension off the bolts whilst I tightened them.

Suffice to say that it was hanging all by itself
