Lumpy 1.9TDI PD105 whilst coming on boost

I may have to look into trying this out, how difficult is it to remove the grease if i wish to reverse the process?

Do not waste your breath telling a VW group dealer you've an oil leak from the intercooler air circuit. I did several times but as there is not meant to be oil there it is not a leak!

I just wiped away the mess on my Passat diesel over the years. It did not get much worse over 6 years. IIRC there is an american VW site with a description of dismantling everything to wash the oil out.If you are at a loose end.

Most Turbo engines, if not all turbo engines would have oil in the intercooler/inlet pipes after the turbo from the turbo seals.

I've had a petrol turbo and this had oil in the pipes, as it was a push over pipe and a jubilee clip it didn't tend to leak though.

My car was doing the same thing between 1800 - 2400 revs.

Had it checked today and it was showing fuel temperature fault!

On closer investigation the wires from the fuel temp. sensor had been chafing on the ribbed protector covering. Had a two new wires soldered in and car is now running perfect

Hmmm, may have to look at this then.

As i fitted a new non genuine coolant temp sensor (the one under the fuel pump). Some time ago, i still have the original OEM part so may look into swapping to that.

Octavia1Z, if you leave your car idling for up to a minute or two. Does the turbo seem to pick up speed?

Then blipping the throttle it returns to normal?

If so this is what my Octavia started doing before the exhaust turbine wheel seperated from the turbine shaft.....

Regarding the exhaust light, i read a thread over on the UK MkIV's Forum. Mentioning undoing the actuator bracket and giving the actuator a rod a jiggle up and down to try and loosen the sticking vanes. Which i think maybe the source of your problem?

The turbo's also can be stripped down and the mechanism thoroughly cleaned out, but i think someone who's competant with a good deal of mechanical knowledge should try this.

Just to clarify guys, that the problem that occurs for me only happens for a short band of the rev counter. In which case it starts around 1700rpm and has cleared up by around 1850-1900rpm's.

I've yet to have a poke around, mainly because im fed up of having to. I dont want to take it to a garage as i dont exactly trust many people with my car either.

I know the compressor blades on my turbo arn't in a good state, but the engine pulls pretty well once its past the 1700-1900rpm band.

The EGR is on its way out, but im unsure which could be at fault. A genuine EGR valve will set me back £170, and a turbo around the £600-£700 mark.

Second thoughts, does anyone think this could be related to the hesitation the Fabia VRS's suffered from with the 14mm EGR gaskets?

I got a feeling it is the same as the vRS Fabia "stutter" on the BLT engines they got.Mine has deffo got a stutter at the mentioned rpm range and like you say it clears and there is no probs after. If iam light footed through the gears it will stutter but heavier acceleration i don,t get it but its a only a slight brief hiccup and i have put up with it until now.Its definately an emmisions thing like the BLT engine but not sure if you can change a gasket on the PD105 engine?

Might look into it oneday and this so called "software update" that i have read also.

I had the software update done to cure the problem about 14k miles ago. It was better for a while but at 40k miles the problem has now returned. Light to moderate acceleration at 1800-2500rpm to maintain speed going up hill. It comes and goes but seems particularly bad when the car is loaded up with 3 or 4 adults plus luggage.

I've done 18k in the car since i bought it which about 14k was with a remap i was unaware of.

The problem has only occured a few months since after covering around 14k. It also did this with the remap.

It did start to occur after it developed a boost leak/the threads pulled out of the cylinder head for the inlet manifold. At which point the car was mapped back to standard.

I've since then fixed the boost leak, but the short sharp jerks have remained. But not over the rev range some of you are describing.

At £170 for a EGR valve, its going to put another huge dint in my pocket :(

Cant say i notice it on the Motorway

at that milage and blowing oil it's defo' the egr probl'y clogged even if it's been cleaned once in it's life sounds like you need a Wingnut stealth pipe mod search on Cupranet or on Fred's you'll be £170 better off:)

It will be interesting to see what happens matey, mine has given up since i put the new EGR valve on.

But the valve was really blathering oil out of it, so much to the point the underside of the inlet manifold was absolutely drenched and it had run down the back of the egr pipe down the exhaust manifold.

Will have to check my EGR now as i have similar symptons. but don,t think its leaking as its all very clean.

Hi to all, newbie here, have Skoda for the first time. Sorry for bringing up this old topic, but just bought Octavia 2 Combi 1.9 TDI PD (105 hp) 4x4, 2006, with this issue so I googled it up and found this thread.

So, with gentle to moderate acceleration (mostly uphill) when the engine reaches 2000 rpm it hiccups until it reaches around 2400 rpm (for a second or so). It is quite obvious stuttering and it instantly stops if I push the pedal to the bottom. The issue doesn't reoccur always, but still frequently enough to bother me. No errors in the log!

My current suspects are:

MAF: will unplug it and see if it gets any better

EGR: will check it - I don't really know, what to search for there, but will try to clean it

some rubber vacuum hoses to the turbo regulator (VNT?)

Has anyone else had exactly this kind of problem and has solved it since? It might be something else, though... Any pointers would be very appreciated in case I (or google) missed something.

Thanks alot!
