problem in programming remote control key 01179

Featured Replies

hello everyone,

does anybody knows how to program remote control key on skoda octavia 2000 model??

i have been trying to program mine one but no sucess:confused:

i have gone into 46, deleted any possible faults, went into adaption 10, chanell 00 to delete privious keys, than went into chanell 01 TEST then SAVE and pressed buttons but nothing???

the key fob did work but the range was reduced due to weak battery, so fitted new batterys and now doesnt work at all ???

Can anyone throw sugestion what to do next please??

thak you all

Check you got the correct frequency key for your car.

If you changed the battery and the key dont work at all then check you didn't bend the metal bit in there that makes the contact from battery to circuit board.

Also if its an old key from ebay etc you cant programme the transponder again you need to get a new one, they only cost about a quid on ebay.

hi godber225r,

it is the right frequency key, as it worked ok minutes before i replaced the battery. The metal contacts are touching printed circuit board as the red light comes on every time you operate buttons. I am the senior SEAT technician but never owned a skoda and the process to program is the same. I am using the VAG COM which has more or less all the facillities as the old 5051-5052 dealer equpiment.

BUT i have litlle more update since laste post, when i gave up with coding the remote control key, i went inside the house for about 1 hour, then i just went out to try if it works and it did but not every time...... I BELIVE the coding process has not been initiated properly???

what do you think

and by the way, the new generation wag key fobs can be programmed unlimited, BUT the imobiliser programming is only for 1 attempt as we been told on SEAT-SKODA course??

thanks

Double check your new battery is o.k. as these are the symptoms of a nearly exhausted battery

hi pickpilot,

this is the first thing ive dove when my remote control lost the range, measured battery voltage and voltage of both batteries was down to 4.9V. When i installed new batteries the voltage went up to 6.4V as it should.

What do you recommend?

It seems as though the coding has taken, as if it hasn't it would not work at all and there would be an incorrect key coding error stored. You could check in the measuring blocks to see if the convenience unit is receiving the signal.

I would suspect a fault with the remote control, could you not borrow one to see if that works every time? I have seen remotes in the past where the soldered circuit board contacts at the button have cracked, carefull re-soldereing could cure that.

Just to add that the pre facelift Octavias have a different part number to the facelift Octavias and Fabias, a later remote will not work with an earlier car.

morning fordfan,

you are absolutelly right! Because my skoda doesnt have skoda alarm i cannot hear conformation beep when codin the key, as you normaly hear audiable sound from alarm siren once key has been initiated.

Have borrow the another key fob with frquency 433Mhz and it works perfect.

So this issue solved, obviously by changing the battery something went wrong with circuit board making the key fob to only work sometimes??????????????

Makes you wonder sometimes

I had problems with both keys on my previous car.

The first was after I dropped it. It turned out to be the solder connection to the pc board for the metal clip that holds the battery. Symptom was intermittent operation but the red light did not always light.

The second key would only operate for a few days and then become intermittent. It was a fault in the circuitry that constantly drained the battery. As the battery became discharged it would operate once and then require an hour to recover before working again.

I found this by measuring the battery voltage and then pressing the unlock button and seeing the voltage fall. I then measured the current being taken from the battery.

As fordfan said, check the soldered joints and for cracks in the tracks.

Will check this circuit board later on today, need to get magnifiing glass tho...

VERY intresting that we all had some sort of problems with remote key fobs that have straight key blade?????

i used to have seat ibizas, toledos and it appears that all key fobs that are not foldable like VW and audi ones have some issues or if they work the range is reduced significantly!!!!!!!!!

i programmed the golf mark4 foldable key fob and it works very nice, long remote control range.... i am not sure if i can match the key to immobiliser unit but will try...........

Has anyone adapted golf mark 4 foldable key to octavia 2001 immobiliser unit?????????????????????

All my key fobs have been foldable, but still had problems as mentioned above

hmmm,

strange, i did work in SEAT dealership for some time and we have noted that round or straight key blade fobs have less remote range than foldable ones and not electronically as stable. I am trying to get foldable key now, but struglling to fing key blade code on plastic tag i received with spare key?

WOULD KEY BLADE CUTTING CODE be 4 or 7 digits???

Usually 4 with a 2 digit prefix, the 7 digits may be the last 7 of the VIN. I have in the past had one cut from a photo by an automotive key/lock supplier.

ah ok,

i have a plastic tag with spare key and on one side you have a sticker with last 8 numbers of chassis, on the other side i have TWO stickers on one sticker you have 13 digits (i belive this is the immo number) and below 13 digits 4 large numbers ( I PRESUME THIS IS THE IMMOBILISER SKC-PIN NUMBER)????? On the second sticker i have 2 digits on top and 5 below?

what do you think?

Info on the tag is:

Last 8 of the VIN

4 digit SKC (you should be able to see where the coating has been scratched off to reveal it)

14 digit immobiliser serial number

A white (paper?) sticker with the key cutting number on it.

hi fordfan,

its the long plastic tag, as i said above. Last 8 digits of vin on one side, on the other side there are like two paper stickers. One one sticker long 13digits and below that large printed 4 digits (i beleive its the immo PIN-SKC number) and on the other sticker 2digitts on top and 5digits below????

I have dealt with lot of SEAT's and VW, coded so many keys, done so many PDI but never come across plastic tag like this one on skoda octavia, just wonder why skoda does this???

Any ideas where can i find code for cutting key blade, would this be on the sticker with 2digits on top and 5 digits below?

Thanks fordfan
