air con control illumination on my octavia combi '99 has died! What can i do to fix this? I tried to pull it out, but didn't know how. Please, help!

Do you have climate control or just the air con with three dials?

If it's the climate control then the whole unit will have to come out and be repaired or replaced. If you prise the centre console surround off there are some torx screws holding the climate control unit in.

If it's the 3 dial air con the there is a bulb in the middle dial which illuminates all the dials, you can pull the middle dial out to get access to it to change it. You'll need some needle nose pliers or a length of rubber pipe to get the old bulb out and the new one in.

Think I read on here somewhere, a post possibly by Lummox, that you need pair of pliars with a cloth over the middle knob (to protect knob) and give it a good hard pull.

Pad the fan control with some suitably thick cardboard and grip it firmly with a pair of pliers and it will pull straight off.
