OEM Parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hi all, thinking of adding The OEM rather than aftermarket parking sensors to my VRS LE. Can anyone advise where the best place to get the kits from. Knowing my luck, I'd order it component by component and realise I've missed something out, so a Kit would be the better option for me..

Cheers

Hello

Friend of mine ordered his kit from www.skodateile.cz .

Fast delivery and all the parts needed. Even the sensors were painted

There's no installation instructions included. We're planning of doing a how to guide with pics in near future.

I think you may need a new rear bumper as well. As the factory fit sensors are recessed into the bumper moldings.

Cheers guys. Got a quote for £260 for aftermarket rears only. That website works out £192 for front and rears with the possibility of the display as well. Look forward to the fitting guide.

auroan the bumper is a bit of a worry. I thought they went in the same bumper based on Talion's rear bumper fitting guide.

Martin

Have you a link to the guide ? I'll be able to tell if there are any pics

ah the factory fit ones don't have the ridge around the hole. They are totally recessed, so if you want factory finish you defo need a bumper with the recesses.

I got a bit lost with that site, it's mostly in CZ even with English version clicked. Any chance of listing all i would need to fit rear sensors to the vrs?

I would have thought the rear sensors had the same bevel as the fronts (if Talon's pictures are anything to go by), if that's the case then surely you wouldn't need any Recess. Has anyone actually done this to confirm one way or the other?

They're is no external rim around the sensor on factory fit units as they are mounted differently. Talons look very much like my dealer fit sensors I had on my A4, If you look closely in the pics you'll see the external rim.

Confused. Looking at both kits on skodateile both seem to have the bevelled edge on them (just like Talon's, and the factory fit ones I've seen). I dont know what external rim you mean. Is it just like a slightly raised lip around the circumference of the hole? If so, then I'd have thought the skodarteile ones would achieve this by simply being pushed through the hole up to the mounting plates on the inside of the bumper.

Hello.

The kit my friend ordered was this: www.skodateile.cz

Edit: And of course you'll need the sensor also

http://www.skodateile.cz/index.php?pg=product∏=58&menu=%A9koda%7COctavia%20II%28A5%29%7CParkovac%ED%20asistent

This kit will give animations in Stream and Audience HU.

E-mail the guy and he'll tell you exactly what kit you need.

Sensors fit perfectly in original rear bumper. You have to take the bumper off to drill holes for sensors and to get cables trough the grommet to the boot. If you are ordering remember to mention the color of your car so the sensor will be painted. This is the hardest part. The rest is pretty straight forward. The control unit is also located in the boot. Beeper goes in to B-pillar and connections for the wire harness are done under the dash. Two wires go into the fuse box and the two CAN cables go into the Central control unit under dash.

You can see the location of the control unit again at Stu's website in this guide. http://www.octavia-vrs.com/technical/estate_towbar.htm

You'll get some idea of the installion if you look at Stu's website for Fabia Vrs

Farmerp2005 I think you should email the guy at skodateile so you can get the correct parts. Since your car is LE and has Bolero HU  you'll propably need this newer control unit for park assistant www.skodateile.cz

I don't know if there are any other differences since we did installation in 2007 Vrs.

If anyone else knows wether the CAN connections for this newer unit are still in Convenince Bus or are they in CAN drive bus, please share you'r knowledge.

Edit:

Looking at this thread http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7823&highlight=parking the pdc ecu uses CAN drive bus. Maybe TallioN can give further tips what needs to be done with new pdc ecu.

Cheers Mike. Only difference is that I have a Columbus in the LE now. But I'll have a read of the other articles. Always seems strange to me that you have all these features on the Standard radio (Stream/Bolero) and lose them all when you upgrade to the columbus.

Hi Martin

Since you have columbus hu and I assume it's working ok I don't think you need a new CAN gateway module which people are tallking about in vwnavi forums. I think all you need is rear sensors, wiring harness and the new version PDC ecu. After installation the park assistant needs to be coded at dealer or by someone with vag-com.

Mike

Since I don't have anything better to do at the moment :P I did some more digging.

TallioN wrote at vwNavi VWnavi.com - View Single Post - Parking sensors on RNS display

1) You hear different sounds from ONE speaker at B pillar. For new PDC unit you need TWO speakers - one for rear and one for front. If you have only rear sensors you don`t need front speaker of course.

2) ECU for only rear sensors is 1Z0919475, for front + rear 1Z0919475A. They are DIFFERENT - 1Z0919475 will not work with front sensors, 1Z0919475A will not work without front sensors. Connections and codings are the same.

3) Not to forget about connection to another CAN (CAN drive instead of CAN comfort) and re-connection of rear PDC sensors.

CAN connections for CAN drive: In CAN Gateway module CAN low on the wire/pin 6 and CAN high wire at pin/wire 16.

As to re-connecting of rear pdc sensors look at lala30's post VWnavi.com - View Single Post - Parking sensors on RNS display with a pic and explanation of what has to be done.

Hope this helps.

I can give more advice on pre-facelift installation.

Mike

i have a facelift 2009 with rear parking sensors which appear on my bolero radio

if i wont to add front also, is these only what i should do??????

1 change the ECU from 1Z0919475 to 1Z0919475A

2 add a second speaker for the front sensors

3 connect the rear and front sensors to the new ECU

that's all , i wont need coding or anything else?????

i dont wont the button ,it wont be easy to add it

am i right or i will need to make anymore connections and codings?????

Mohamed you need to purchase front sensors and run their cable to the boot where the ECU is located. I think that you'll need to add the button to activate the front sensors. They'll work when you reverse the car but if you want to use them while driving forward (parking near a wall for instance) you need that button.

Parts needed can be found at skodateile.cz or you can order the parts needed from your local dealer

Check your ECU first to see what version it is. The Ecu is located in the left side of trunk on top of the wheel arch. Remove trimmings in trunk to see it. If it is the one without letter A then you need to change that. Also you need to add the front speaker. All other connections should be fine. Don't know for sure if you need some coding after adding front sensors.

TallioN's post is something you should read http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/retrofitted-oem-front-parking-sensors-lot-pics/93128/

Well I'd decided to treat myself to a Columbus unit to go in my vRS FL until you said this Martin

What features have you lost going from Bolero to Columbus?

Yes you get a lot of new features (Sat nav being the main one ;))

The only features you seem to lose are:

Climatronic Temperature display.

RDS Radio text.

Possibly Parking sensor display (seems to be older Can bus models)

6 Changer CD (not necessary having the Hard drive on board)

It seems it is possible to get most of these back with a firmware upgrade(and possibly a can bus, although I wouldn't think you'd need that on a FL model), so it's still definitely worth the upgrade.

I was told if you added the sensors after build, then they were not as fully integrated as a factory fit. For example, you get the sounds but there was no visual display on the stereo.

Is this still the case?

Cheers.

Griffo, it depends on the controllers you use. The after market ones favoured by the Dealers won't give you the display, but if you get the proper Skoda ones, and have the correct Gateway etc, then you will have exactly the same features as a factory fit.

how to determine the correct can gateway , i have an 2009 octavia facelift the new shape

i have a rear sensors , my ecu is 1Z0919475 so i must change it to 1Z0919475A in order to add the front sensors, but what about the gateway

I would have thought that if it's working on the rear sensors, then you already have the right gateway. I don't know if anyone else can confirm this.
