Transmission tunnel noise when turning right

Featured Replies

Turning right and accellerating at the same time, for instance around a roundabout, there comes a knocking noise which increases in tempo as i accellerate and stops when i straighten up the wheel.

Have been told that drivers side rear shock is on its way out (leaking) at last service, 1000 miles ago, but the noise comes from under car, behind front seats and is quite central hence me assuming t.tunnel.

Would love to think its related to shock as planning to have that replaced asap but not sure it is...........Any ideas?

It could well be the notoriously weak exhaust centre mount having failed.

Hmmmm, think you may be right as wiggling from the back of the back box produced a similar noise......

.....minor development linking in to what ive posted about the shock/damper......went over/into a particulary harsh pothole yesterday and heard the noise usually heard when turning right. Same noise - but a single knock rather than a few in quick succession.

Have a really good relationship with a local Skoda Dealership so going to get shock done and see if that makes any difference. Will request a little investigation into the noise if not.

Cheers for the suggestion.

My guess would be a CV joint. It's very difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from, but your description is classic failing CV joint.

I had exactly the same problem when going left, It was after a new turbo down pipe. It was rubbing (and i mean barely rubbing) on the heat sheild around four pipes as it straigtens out (power steering maybe) just bent the sheild very slightly and its now perfect. I also changed the center mount for the exhaust as that was allowing too much movement which didnt help the larger exhaust :)

good luck

whipped it round to a local indipendant garage for a 'listen'........ one right turn later mechanic was convinced that it was my exhaust that was moving to cause noise, after checking centre mount (reaching underneath car and having a quick feel...) suggested it/they were ok - hence concluded probably rubber mounts on their way out. Anyway; said a good chance all could be recified with cable ties and five minutes on a ramp.....roll on saturday morning. Keep you posted, thanks for the advice.

P.S i too thought cv at first but just had them done at service.

Diagnosis - centre exhaust mount completely missing...........

Jorily appear to stock the part for about £6 so fingers crossed all sorted for cheap - the way we like it

Hmm does this sound possibly like a noise im having? happens in a straight line, a knocking (from engine area) that increases with revs onlyheard from about 25+ mph and usually when maintaining speed with light throttle. (kind of like holding a stick in bicyle spokes as the wheel is moved) Revving at idle is fine which did leave me to beleve its transmission related but havent a clue.

Has been to dealer twice, theyve changed both CV joints and told me it was because of the non oem break pads ive used, rattling -tosh

I am having the exact same problem as 'thebolyn' describes. Would appreciate anyones opinion before taking it to skoda. I have the front brake discs and pads changed about 1500miles ago if that really is going to make a difference but cant see why it would.
