Servicing Interval Recommendation?

Featured Replies

I know I've got a few weeks to go before my car turns up, but I've been thinking what's the best servicing interval to have for someone who does a maximum of 7,000 miles per year?

Ta.

every 12 months regardless of mileage an u cant go wrong.

There is that, but then there's variable servicing, which seems to be worth considering too.

Mine's on variable servicing. I have had it for 14 months and have done 9100 miles. The next service is due in 300 miles (or 336 days - yeah, right!) . Might as well be on fixed interval then and save a few pounds on the 507 oil.

I do lots of short 4 miles to work 4 miles home trips and a 100 mile trip every weekend.

Fixed, would be serviced at just over one year.

I'm on variable but do 18-20k per year, which means I also service once a year.

Two years between variable services seems too long for me.

The car will come set up for variable, which is about 18.5k miles(30k KM) max or two years. Depending on the type of journeys you do & your driving style it could go down to 12k on variable. I tend to cruise the motorways and I get the 18.5k, short journeys tend to lower the mileage between services.

Less than 9500/year, definitely fixed.

I'll get them to put it on fixed then when it arrives.

Cheers!

Or get it set at the factory if still being built. Cars can be ordered Fixed or Variable.

Nah, it's just as easy to get the garage to do it when it goes through its PDI check, I might also get them to activate the DRL function too, whilst they're at it.

Just that, the sticker codes from the factory will show variable, and you'll be on fixed.

No biggy, but easier for the car to come set right from the factory to avoid any forgetting at PDI (yes, it will get missed).

I do the same as you, but mainly all well warmed up journeys..my local dealer knows me well, and was adamant i should stay on variable!!..i haven't used any oil since new, and there is no black smoke on the exhaust....others will argue, but.................

Dealer never asked me when I ordered, should I tell them when they inform me of the build week?

:rotz: It has the same oil if its fixed or variable ( mine is 507 ) so why not get the most out of the latest synthetic oil as you will be paying the same service price !

I bought my car on variable QG1 service, tapped with Shell Helix Ultra 507 00 oil, but I think to change the oil after 15k km never mind the time used (up to 2 years) and to continue using 507 00 oils. So I will take benefit from the prolonged time, not the mileage. I do about 10-18k km per year.

Another option is to stick with variable, with an interim oil changes at 9,000 miles if you are not happy leaving the oil in so long.

I was told that the long life oil was only £5 more.

I do short journeys and rather not wait 2years. This variable thing is too confusing and IMHO aimed at keeping fleet managers happy.,

I will be on 3 years free servicing. Salesman told me with my mileage being about 9000 to be on fixed. He said to make sure my 3rd service is done slightly early so any MOT failures can be fixed under warranty.

I do about 6k a year.
