Fabia question for newbie!

Featured Replies

I went into a dealer today to view a Roomster, unfortunately it wasnt really what I wanted but looked at a Fabia Estate, which I really liked. Now, theyve got a good deal on now with no VAT and zero percent finance and depending what deal they can do with my old car I might go for one.

Id be after the 1.4 16v petrol, how economical in real world driving is it. Is the Fabia a good reliable car, does this 1.4 suffer the headgasket failiure that the old 1.4 did?

Any adivce is good, hoping to get a price for my car tommorow and if its good I may well order one next week.

Thats what I thought, I tried a 1.4 16v and then the 1.2 and there wasnt a huge difference. The 1.2 was more eager round town than the 1.4 and not a great deal slower on the motorway. The character of the 1.2 won me over in the end... it just felt fun whereas the 1.4 felt just ordinary.

Congratulations, best of luck with the new motor!

I've also ordered a 1.2 Fabia (no the estate) and it should be arriving mid week sometime.

Hope we've both got good ones!

Spoke with our local window cleaner who has just bought thr 1.4 petrol estate. He took advantage of the scrappage scheme and got the car for £7k. The garage gave him £3k for his car and he go 0% finance and he is getting 45mpg.

Got it:D Very happy, handover was good and car was pretty spotless. Service dept. forgot to stamp book for PDI but thats a fairly minor issue. The car is great, drives really well and the ride is lovely. Engine noise I really like, very growly:thumbup:

It seems well put together one, I have a little vibration from the passenger airbag area but hey, its a budget car!

Going to get some mats and mudflaps too, not sure on the rubbing strips yet. I know they can help prevent some damage but I quite like the clean lines of the car.

I have to say I've had my Furby all of 2 weeks now and am very happy - it's all I expected and more!

Glad you like it!

Got mine a few days ago and i'm very pleased.

One thing though, if i accelerate from idle gradually i can hear a few "ticks" coming from the engine area as the engine picks up, do you get those?

Have you got the 1.2? Its quite a vocal engine on pick up, I suppose you might call it a ticking sound.

Yes, i have got the 1.2.

I noticed the "tick, tick" as it picks up from idle, even when not in gear. The "Tick, Tick" seems to dissappear once the revs have built up, but you can't really hear it when you're moving.

Wasn't sure if it it was anything to worry about, or just a charactaristic of the engine?

Perhaps you could rev yours (gradually) with the window open for me and let me know?

I moved the mats from my Fabia mark I into the mark II and they fit (it's the same shape) so you can buy mark I fabia mats if they're cheaper.

Will be reliable but very very slow

i disagree, it's fast for a 1.2 3cylinder and feels noticably faster than a 1.4 16v petrol peogeot 207

Regarding the ticking sound, yes mine does it at idle too with the revs up... then as you say it goes away once youve built a bit of speed up. Its a fairly weird noise, and one that no other 3 cylinder lump Ive owned does but the one I test drove was even louder!

Really enjoying the Fabia so far, although the aircon seriously kills the engines power:rofl:

Thanks for that! I feel better now, seems like it's a characteristic of the engine.
