Skoda will make the green caliper paint available !

Featured Replies

Just spoken with Skoda over the lack of availability of the green caliper paint.

I asked why the green caliper paint was not available from the dealer and whether it was an item that could be sourced by Skoda UK ?

I also told Skoda that my local dealer had informed me that if they have any paint defects with any green calipers, they replace the whole caliper ! The guy was very suprised to hear this and i further commented that by making the paint available they would not only make a profit selling it, but save ££££ in labour and caliper costs for caliper replacement. He said i had a very good point !

Skoda Customer Care said:

"I will log this request under the title 'Caliper paint' and if we get many other enquiries then we will most likely get something sorted so that it will be available for sale.

SO:

EVERYONE WITH A VRS (green Calipers) CALL SKODA ON: 08457 745 745

and log the request to have this green - heat resistant paint made available.

Doubtless Hammerite Smooth Green will still be cheaper... ;)

I always wondered why they didn't sell the Minz green paint seperately.... the calipers and caliper mounts have two different part numbers, one for the plain caliper and one for it painted Minz green.

mind you my car is 4.5 yr old near enough with 66K+ and I have cleaned my calipers nearly every time I wash the wheels using the alloy wheel brush and mine are still good and green. I can understand that if one goes wrong then youll need the paint then but i think that skoda will sell it well overpriced.

I might want some eventually when I get some 6 pots on but till then ill jus keep mine clean.

keep tryin tho mate

to counter that i properly scrubbed the brake dust from my calliper with a wheel brush for the first time last weekend and the 2 coats of hammerite applied back in June(ish) patchily flaked off from the underside in massive chunks.....I didn't scrub the other side half as hard! :thumbdwn:

mmm thats strange, mind you I am still on the original paint. I have cleaned them on average 1 every 2 month since I got the car new so that might be y?

mind on a diff note lots of ppl seem to get a dirty TB but mine is still lookin clean and new????

have I really got a vRS or something that looks like one lol

i have no doubt it's down to my slap dash approach with the bursh and hammerite as the rears with their smooth skoda minz green finished are flawless.

ah well i still have 3/4 of a tin of hammerite to touch them up with once i get chance

BUT...

The reason for getting the correct paint from Skoda would be baecause it would look 100% right and also be heat proff. the hammerite is ok but not heat resistant like the original paint. It ripples according to a few people on here - after doing a track day or so.

I know that there will be many people who think the Hammerite is the way to go, but its not exactly the same and not heat tolerant.

I would spend £5 - £7 on a paint that was EXACTLY right.

So does this mean that no one will phone up Skoda after my efforts to try and get this made available?

ill do it on monday mate,

like you say 5-7 is nothin really to have it right, then that should last ages again if its looked after.

Maybe I'm the only person who avoids cleaning my calipers to try and cover the green up :P Never been a fan of the green calipers if I'm honest and if I'm asked "why did you paint them green?" one more time I might slap someone*.

*in a camp girlie way, possibly with a glove.

I must say, considering the price of Hammerite and aftermarket caliper paint, GBP5-7 seems very optimistic. I once bought a touch-up pen for my old Renault, and I think it cost GBP18.99! What I do know is that it wasn't even a match in the end and I took it back to the dealer for a refund! I guess what I'm saying is that, with the best will in the World, the guy on the phone probably said what he did to fob you off. And even if you do succeed in getting Skoda to supply it, it's going to be hideously expensive (think PD160 intake). And even then, it won't match the green on your centre caps! Prepare to be disappointed is all...

If anyone has problems with their calipers having faded but have not got to the point of the paint flaking then you can use high temp clear lacquer over the caliper once they've been cleaned and they will look vastly improved as it hides the oxidised paint. Not perfect but a damn site easier and quite possibly a fair bit cheaper than trying to repaint the whole caliper in fresh green paint.
