vRS Bubbling paint under rub strips. Definitive thread

Featured Replies

This thread regards the bubbling that many owners have, but few seem to have dealt with.

I thought I would make this thread as there is not a definitive thread with a conclusive outcome on this matter.

This IS a manufacturing defect covered by your warranty! ALL MK1 Fabia VRS' are covered.

How to Claim

1- Check to see if you are one of the 'lucky' few that have this. Do this by using fishing line to 'cut' the adhesive behind the strip. Once you are about 12" into it pull the trim back a little (take care not to damage).

If you see this...

Go to step 2. If there is no defects, heat adhesive with a hair dryer then and stick it back on (or remove for a cleaner look).

2- Phone a Skoda garage. Explain to them that the trim is coming away and you have noticed a paint defect. They will arrange to see the car. They will take pictures of the car and send them to Skoda. Have them check the 4 doors. If they don't check the 4 doors, check them your self, then have them take pictures. Warrenty work requires autherisation from Skoda directly.

3- You should recive an answer within 2 working days. Once autherised, they will ask to set a date to have the doors resprayed. Remember to ask for a courtesy car. For me it will be either a Fabia vRS or an Octavia vRS.

4- Pick your car up 3 days later. :D

UPDATE!

Well it was 7 days not 3 as predicted...

is this covering cars over 3 years, or within the 3 year paint defect warrenty, or is it classed as corrosion?

Technically it comes under the 10 year warranty. ALL Mk1 Fabia vRS' are covered.

:P

Nice find, does it cover the non-vRS models as well for us mere mortals?

I cannot confirm this. However if you have this, take it to a dealer and have a go.

Cheers anyway, I don't but was thinking of removing mine, and hearing that they were covered would have set my mind at ease. The boot lid is starting to go, so I assume the doors will be too.

If I find out either way, shall report back.

Threaded up-dated. See 1st thread.

Just leaving mine on, only plan to keep it another 2 years max

They even sorted my ding ;), I think its a good selling point (if too another member). they give you the option of having new trim put back on, i said i didnt want it.

I had mine rejected due to henrys putting it through as a factory defect

Might try a different dealer with my private reg this time

Noobie question here..

I've got a 2002 Fabia Comfort. Can the side rub strips be peeled off on this to provide a cleaner look?

I'm assuming the rub strips don't have guide holes, and are just stuck on too?

Update on mine,

I removed the Bump Strips from my 2002 Fabia.

On 3 of the doors, the paint has bubbled off like in those pics above. This is because the bump strip is hollow in the middle, and water collects and sits there. The paint eventually bubbles up and flakes off.

On one of my doors, the bubble paint is very veyr bad.

I took it to the dealers, and the girl just dismissed it, and said it was tough luck, not covered by warrenty.

I also showed her the tail gate (above teh number plate) weld seems, and the paint has started to flake, and there is spidering under the paint to the left of the number plate (paint still intake) but rust spidering is evident under the paint.

I was told this too wasn't covered by paint warrenty, and tough luck
