Yeti as a family car?

Featured Replies

There are very few cars out there that will accommodate 3 booster seats :thumbdwn:

We have a 3 year old, 5 year old and a 7 year old. The law states that you do not require a booster seat if there are 2 other booster seats fitted and there is not room for a third.

We did buy a seatbelt clip thing that lowers the 3 point strap so it doesn't hurt her neck though.

Ah but the OP, Bowtie, is in Ireland - so the law may be different there

Thanks to Bryan and Charlie :) The safety rating is the same on all 3 back seats I believe, so the plan would be to put the two larger chairs middle and side and the baby seat on the other side (if they'd fit).

I did see the test drive reviews and I'm quite disappointed as people seem to be underwhelmed and the car seems to be missing small handy basics. I think the yeti had become the solution to all the kiddy issues to me- so tough to let go of that thought. But I'm still going to do a test drive asap.

I don't know if that loophole exists in Ireland/EU, but safety-wise I know I wouldn't be comfortable with that. Even in a car as safe as the Yeti. I've researched too much on this and in general, the outcomes for using car seats are safer than not. So, I'm still on the hunt :)

OK, I rang skoda IE and the irish release date will be in November sometime with no pricelist available as yet :(

Well, a said I would not be looking for a Yeti as a family car, and from my 1st look at one today, I think that is just as well. I do not think the back seats are wide enough for what you are after (There again I cant think of many that would be), but the main problem I could see for anyone with 3 children to lug around is the size of the boot. It seems quite narrow as well as lacking in lenght for something like a pram or buggy. I cant judge a car for you, but I do think the boot space will be a big draw back.

They did say that the starting price in Ireland "should" be around €22.000. but say that spec and price had not yet been finalised

Bryan, thanks for that :)

Over the last week I've accepted that this isn't going to work as a family car :(

So, anyone like to offer opinions on:

- Citroen C3 picasso (not 3 separate rear seats though) width 1730

- Citroen C4 picasso, 3 separate seats and width 1830

- Citroen Xsara picasso- separate seats and decent width

- Renault scenic- 3 seats and width

I really like the C3 picasso but don't think it'll work either! Why do they not make any cool cars with 3 back seats!!!!

Don't know about Citroens but how about a FIAT Doblo; used to own one, acres of passenger room (can even get 2 seats in the boot to make it a 7 str) and sort of 'cool' because some might argue its so ugly and uncool! :D;)

Or a Honda FRV?

Hi :)

In Ireland the doblo's around 20k, special offers on the citroen means it's only around the 19k mark. I think for styling alone the citroen gets the vote there :)

The FRV looks nice but is more expensive here and becoming end of life?

Keep the opinions coming

What about a Fiat Multipla? Not as ugly as the original version although it's a lot blander now. Quite a wide car so three child seats should fit easily.

For some reason I can't find the multipla on the fiat ie website. Hmmm.

I've arranged to test drive a xsara and C4 this wknd.

Am quite keen on the C3 picasso as well but it looks like the width would be an issue too and a 60/40 rear bench.

I thought the Multipla went out of production a year or so ago.

As for prices you're quoting I presume they are in Euros and your 'tax' on a new car is quite high isn't it (they seem expensive compared to UK; that's all).

Thanks bahnstormer

Yes, we get nicely busted on tax over here. We have Vehicle Road Tax (VRT) of 12-40% on top of the price+VAT @21% :thumbdwn:.

Importing doesn't really offer value unless you really want the car or are talking a really top end spec. Makes the choice a little less here.

I saw a SEAT Altea XL this morning and thought they were rather nice, but went researching and again- no three seats or safe for three Child seats in back.

The choice is very very limited.

I've had two in the past. Both were reliable and brilliant family cars, with all three rear seats full size. IMHO far far better than having young children in the third row of seats,

Stuart

My neighbours just got a Honda FRV and he's really pleased with it. 3 decent seats in the back. You might get a good deal if they are phasing them out.

I'm going to look at the 3008 when it comes out and see if it it's better family wise.

When I was little we had one of those big Cortinas. In the days before seatbelts we managed to get 10 of us kids lined up either on the sofaish back seat or in the boot! We also had a Scimitar and used to lean up against the back of the front head rests and stick our heads out the sunroof! Ahh the days before NCAP ratings.....:D

Well guys I thought I should come back and let you know I test drove and fell in love with the C4 picasso. 1.6 Diesel was a beautiful smooth drive, very happy with the space and the car seats fit in the nice roomy individual back seats.

Thank you all for your help (and maybe my next car will be a Yeti  ).
