Hill Climbing, has anyone been?

Featured Replies

I know it's a bit late in the year but definately next year I'd love to go and watch some hill climbing.

I've had a scout around the net and there is one at Gurston Down that looks pretty good.

Is there any other events anyone can recommend? Down Soth ideally but I know stuff like this is normally up country.

Tom :)

I went to Gurston Down last year on the practise day.

It's not bad but for the best view you need to walk a bit. :)

Prescott hill climb in Gloscestershire is pretty good , Top Gear went there with their old versus new challenge, Healey Sprite v Chavved up Peugeot 306 iirc

i think Wiscombe park in Devon is good also

Gurston down is ace. It actually starts off going slightly downhill! I drove it in a 998cc metro and got to 75mph before the first bend so god knows what speeds the single seater bike engined stuff get to.

Can't you do this in your own car as well? dunno what class it is etc or how you get into it but hey.

Quite a few years ago I did an open day at the Harewood hillclimb In my Pug309GTI through the Peugeot Sport Club & It was a fantastic day, I had about 6 runs up It:D

Prescott is a cracking venue to spectate. A search will find some of my photos. There's a meet there this weekend as well

Live about four miles from Shelsley Walsh hill climb but have never been, I really must get down there and spectate one day.. :o

been there to spectate , excellent hillclimb for spectating, although a good climb up to get to the seats before the last bend

It's not bad , though you can't see as much of the track as you can at Prescott and certainly not all at the same time.

That's excellent for spectating.

I marshalled there regulary back in the late 70's early 80's,

They used to ply all marshalls with free butties and BEER, yes BEER at the lunch break!!

They don't do that anymore strangely enough.:rotz:

Competed there once in 98. No room for error there whatsover. Some of those trees are mighty solid.

i was supposed to be competing there in September 2000, but it was the weekend of the fuel blockades, i did have fuel to do the event , but it was called off :(

I'm considering getting another licence and p'raps doing the odd localish sprint and hillclimb again in the Fabia. Haven't tried the new track at Angelsy yet, but knew the old configuration very well.

Beat a Cooper S Works 4 out of 5 timed runs 'round there in my previous remapped Fabia in 04.:D

footnote... I hasten to add that I'm not 'willy waving', the guy had never been to Ty Croes before, and probably wasn't using the car to its full potential. ;)

On paper, he SHOULD have trounced and roasted me with his 220 bhp
