Fabia gearchange problem?

Featured Replies

Hi. I've had a Fabia 1.9 tdi estate for nearly three years - a work lease car. The lease is up next month and I'm considering buying, as work won't renew it. Here's the issue: 1st - 2nd gearchange feels a bit crunchy at the moment and I'd need to get the lease company to fix that before I consider buying. It's in for a service and its first MOT end of next week.

What are the possible issues with the gearchange? I'm guessing an oil change might fix it, but if not that, then what? Possible synchro problems? Car has done 47000 miles.

Cheers

James

Could be oil, or it could just be a simple alligement issue. My car had the same issues and a realligemnet and oil change and it felt like a new box.

If the oil change and alignment check doesn't fix it then get the engine mounts checked out.

Thanks for your responses - sorry I couldn't get back to you quicker - been offline since I posted the question. Anyway, Skoda dealer couldn't detect the issue (I'm not convinced they tried too hard), so I have a couple of weeks in which to get it sorted before the lease runs out.

if its crunchy going from 1st to 2nd , then the synchro/baulk rings could be worn

or as has already been said , oil change may help , aswell as linkage check/adjustment
