P shaped item in spare compartment

Featured Replies

Hello.

Whats the metal P shaped tool type thing thats in the polystyrene on top of the spare wheel ?

Thanks in advance.

I did wonder that too, I think something similar was included in my previous car and it may have been to help remove a plastic hubcap but I'm by no means sure about this

If it's just a bit of wire, it is to help remove the plastic hubcap. If plastic, it could the wheel bolt cover remover.

I would say for removing the wheel bolt covers.

Yes, I was assuming the P-shaped thing referrede to in the OP was the wire thingy.

The bolt cover remover is the black thing shaped like a big pair of tweezers so maybe its the centre cap remover.

Sorry dont really understand what your saying !!

The part you refer to is of no use to the Octavia as it's used to remove wheel bolt caps from VW cars. I guess the 'boot toolkit' has become standard accross some VAG cars and is added as a matter of course.

Don't worry I sometimes have difficulty myself :D

What I was saying was that the part the OP was referring too was the metal wire device which I thought was to help remove plastic hubcaps (rather than the plastic u-shaped thing that's intended to remove the wheelbolt caps).

P shaped or more like a --O shape? With thread on the longer side?

It is a tow hook that you will have to screw in the bumper behind the little round piece of plastic.

The black plastic thing for the bolt covers is more a U shape :D

Perhaps Morph will give us a better description of the part in question.

The part that I was referring to I think is designed to remove plastic hup caps is referred to as a 'wire hook' thus :

main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=82848&g2_serialNumber=1

This was taken from my Passat handbook as I can't see it mentioned on the online Octavia one and can't be bothered to go and get the one that came with the car at the moment.

It's not this tool is it :

main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=82857&g2_serialNumber=1

This is used for the following :

main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=82859&g2_serialNumber=1

:D

The tool you've described can be used to pull the centre covers off an Elegance Vega alloy without risking damaging the paint on the wheel near the recess by using a key or other random object to prise it.

Ahhh, cars by Ikea.

This is it. I didnt take it all the way out to see the hook on the end.

A pic can be seen here PIC

One BIG jigsaw puzzle and I wonder how many here would attempt to put it all back together and find they'd got a couple of pieces left over?

main.php?g2_view=core.downloaditem&g2_itemid=82859&g2_serialnumber=1

disassembled

I've always wondered what that was for. However against the pic posted above it says it's for removing "VW black caps". That makes it even more puzzling - what are they?

I presume that the wire 'p' shaped wire tool is designed to remove caps with a hole in the centre and the 'u' shaped plastic tool is designed to remove caps without the central hole.

Yes thats correct, although they seem to have little or no idea at the factory when they are built!

My Superb has the 'wire hook' which is useless for the caps that are 'nut shaped' fortunately you can pull the caps off easily with your fingers.
