Trip computer vs maxidot?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just ordered a new Octavia Estate SE and it comes as standard with a trip computer. However, I've just realised what I saw in action on the demonstrator in my test drive wasn't the basic trip computer as that car had the steering wheel upgrade which includes maxidot.

So, what's the difference between the basic trip computer and maxidot on the new 2009 facelift SE model?

I can't find any documentation on it. Docs or photo's would be great if anyone has any :)

Really appreciate any pointer,

Thanks

Phil

Maxidot is an enhanced version of the trip computer, so it has all of the functionality of the trip computer, but also allows you access to other functions that you'd otherwise need a laptop & software to access.

If you download the manual from here: http://new.skoda-auto.com/com/service/documentation/octavia/Pages/0609.aspx

You can find out all of the functionality of maxidot from page 25 onwards.

Thanks.

What other functions specifically? What can you access on the maxidot that isn't on the standard? Is it documented anywhere?

Sorry for all the questions, just like to know exactly what I'm getting/not getting :)

It can alter lighting, Units (mph/kmh), Temperature (°C/°F), Language, Time, Convenience items, Winter Tyres etc.

OK, so if I have this right, what it displays is the same but the ability to change settings is extra.

Thanks :)

Brilliant - thanks :)

If you want Maxidot then you should consider changing the order sooner rather than later as this thread shows : http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/what-maxidot/156927/

I think Skoda should publish more info on what maxidot does in their brochures.

More or less, the Maxidot can display a lot more info at the same time and has a much more logical layout. For example, the normal trip computer can display trip distance and total mileage, but not at the same time. Maxidot shows both at the same time. You can also display info from the radio headunit on the maxidot which you cant show on the standard trip (eg. mp3 track info, radio station and so on).

The maxidot is the thing to have, and to date on this forum, retrofitting the maxidot in place of the standard trip is one of the most popular changes to be done, and it costs a lot more than having it as a dealer extra.

Some pics of prefacelift difference, so you get the idea.

You should be able to as it's listed in the Available on all models (Factory Fitted Optional Equipment) list.

9th item down.

Can you spec Maxidot on the SE? The "build your own" on the web doesn't show it as an option...

Yes, it's an option for all models except the S (and the L&K which already has it) for £125.00

Sooo... you gonna change your order to get it added? It's a must-have geek toy!!!!!

No, now the order is in I'll probably just leave it be. If I'd realised beforehand I probably would have ordered it.

Looking at the manual for the new FL models, the basic trip computer display doesn't look quite as basic as for the older pre-FL one's.

Thanks everyone for the help though - much appreciated :)

If you like to change things to suit yourself I would ask your salesperson to change the order to include Maxidot (I certainly would if I was in your shoes).

It is nice to be able to customise the locking, unlocking, lighting, blinker flashes options etc etc to exactly what you want without having to pay the dealer to do it for you.

Why not decide what you want and ask the dealer to program it that way during the PDI/before you pick it up.

I dont have MD on my order, a part of me wishes I did, but £125 to be able to set things I would probably only set once in the car's lifetime seems a lot.

Ok then - on a day to day driving basis what are they?

As far as I can tell it's a better readout for the trip computer and lets you set a few fairly static configuration options in the car.

*edit* I should add that I have BMW iDrive ATM and (aside from the fact it makes changing radio station dangerous) I rarely change anything regarding the car setup.

With the bulb failure messages, it tells you exactly which bulb has failed. The standard dash just has a single bulb failure light, and leaves it up to you to work out which of the multitude of bulbs (front and back) has failed.

With the door open warning it shows you which door(s) (including bonnet, hatch) are open, the trip computer does not do that either.

I couldnt live without it now, its just so convienient and much nicer to look at.

I ordered mine with Maxidot and I'm glad that I did as I appreciate the information and control that it gives. I wanted a steering wheel wich controls the radio anyway and it comes as standard when you order the multifunction steering wheel. What I would say though is that it's a bit too easy to keep looking at it and switching between the different readings and can therefore sometimes be distracting.

Bit gutted i didn't add this to my order now, but i'm sure i'll not stop grinning when the car arrives though :)
