Very Impressed with the Vredsteins!

Featured Replies

After around 900 miles these Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta's are really starting to come alive now, even in the damp there are oodles of grip over the Kuhmo 712's i had on up front. It also worth mentioning my car is riding on 30mm Eibach lowering springs.

On dry roads the handling is far superior to any other tyre i've ever used. Then again i've only ever used Avon ZZ3's and ZV5's, which have been of a similar price band.

The midrange sort of tyre i've used have been Federal S595 Super Steels, which did me well on a 200bhp car considering i got them for £50-£60 a piece.

I've used Avon ZV5's on the old set of 17's i've got, although they were good in the dry. Any dampness used to leave you feeling rather untrusting if the road tipped sharply on a change in section on a bridge or a bend.

All i can say is they really are worth the extra money in terms of safety and confidence. And wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone asking about them.

I cant comment on how they will fare durability wise with stop/start driving and the rubbish roads around Sheffield/Rotherham.

But time will tell, so its a big thumbs up from me! :D

  • Just put a set of the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on my vRS - very impressed. Loads of grip. Knock spots off the contis that were originally specced!

  • Are you sure it's the tyres ? :P

Interesting that you rate them that highly against one of my older favourite tyre designs - the ZZ3.

From what I gather with the Vredsteins - they seem to give the performance of the Michelin PS2's (my current favourite!) but for a reduced cost. :)

Most of the Vredestein range is very good for quality and performance (especially in the wet). My wife and I have been using them for years. The one thing I have noticed lately is they seem to be creeping up in price to almost the cost of the premium brands.

I await a road test on the new Ultrac Cento which should appeal to many Octy drivers who do not have VRS's. They appear to resemble the latest Conti's.

Interesting, is there any online place where to get them at good price?

TIA,

Last week's Auto express conducted a tyre test in which Vredestein's came third behind Continental and Goodyear. The prices they quoted for the tyres were from etyres and the Vredestein tied for most expensive along with Michelin and Continental. The test used the Sportrac3 which is not what I would rate as "cutting edge" and has been out for a few years now. (my wife has them on her 1.9tdi Fabia),

Shopping around is the only answer .

225/40r18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta on eBay (end time 18-Oct-09 11:29:44 BST)

I bought mine from this guy and price wise it seems this is the norm. Not sure what planet people come from when they regard an £88 tyre in a 225/18 size as expensive. I used to pay double that for the "premium" brands not that long ago.

I've said this on more than one occasion - so much so its getting boring - BUY THE VREDESTEINS!! They are THE best tyre for sensible money. They may have come third in the recent tyre test but how much were the other tyres?.....

These knock a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's into a copped hat.

I have done shed loadsa laps on the nurburgring with my vredesteins and they were eons ahead of the toyoT1rs i had prior. the grip on them is immense in comparison, they didnt overheat like the toyos did and they dont seem to have worn down to bad either. seem to grip well in the wet as well, and for the price i think they are unbeatable. I wont go to another make now until something of similar performance or more comes to that price,

I put Vredestein's snow track 2s all weather on the front last November, as the car is a taxi and we cannot get out of our town without going up a hill, they preformed beyond the call of duty, In the snow I was getting to places where people where abandoning there cars and beyond, the tyres where good in snow rain and the dry oh and I only took them off 2 weeks ago after 31 K miles and they where still at 1.8 mill, all over

TIA,

I've used Elite direct.com in Rainham for my last two pairs of Ultrac Sessantas, as here;- Discount Tyre Search For Car 4x4 And Van - 225/40R18 Performance Branded & Budget Tyres bought at a competitive price and with tyres nice and 'fresh'. They are doing a special offer on Ultrac Sessantas at present.

Not sure if they will ship to Italy though? ;)

I'd argue that the Ultrac Sessantas are better in the wet, but the PS2s have the edge in the dry.

However, having used Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s (not PS2 that won't last quite as long) and Ultrac Sessantas (now on my second set) on a ££ per mile basis they came out equal. So you pays your money and takes your choice.;)

...and while at Elite, get them to do a 4 wheel alignment on the car - works wonders!

I have the Snotrac 2 Winter tyres on my 4x4 Sedici and they are truly superb. Could climb a snowy Stalagmite with them.

surly a stalagmite would be too slippery for the snow to stick to it?

If the snow was deeper than the stalagmite was high, my hypothesis would still stand :P:D

No don't think so; Rainham, as in Rainham, Essex - the other side of the Dartford Crossing. It says so on their home page;

Good job getting them delivered! :D;)

Maybe im not being fair, as every brand/make of car is different.

The last car i used the ZZ3's on was a Astra Coupe Turbo, admittedly there was double the power but the same torque as a PD105.

They didnt last very long, but never bit in as hard as the Vredsteins but then again the Coupe had a solid rear axle. Aswell as being on standard springs.

Bought myself a set of new 18s last week on a whim and needed some tyres.

Went straight back to Elite Direct (Rainham, Essex) and bought a set of 4 Ultrac Sessanta in 225/40 18 92Y at £89.70 each inc. VAT and delivery (225/45 17s are currently at £80.50). That's £358.80 for all four, delivered.

Did this on-line at 2:00pm yesterday and tyres were delivered by DHL to my office an hour ago; not quite within 24 hours. DOT production code on all four is 2609 i.e. they are only a couple of months old; good stuff. :D

Will get them fitted at the weekend. :)

Nice - what wheels have you gone for?

Steve

Should look nice mate. I went for the OEM look with 18" Zeniths and its amazing how many people have asked "have you done something to the car"!!! Subtle

I've taken the knobblies off the new set of Vredesteins and they are as awsome as ever. I can qualify the following comments having done a direct back to back with my old OEM wheels and tyres: http://briskoda.net/automotive-parts-sale/new-17-zeniths-bridgestone-potenzas-sale/158103/

The Potenza's break away quite a bit quicker than the Vreds and at lower speed(remember my "old" ones were 225's as well although 45 profile). That said the Vreds ar not quite as progressive and don't necessarily give you as much warning. The thing is I think its because by the time they DO let do, you are travelling a lot quicker than the Potenzas and nence the moment of inertia is greater leading to faster slip. One area that the Potenza's do have them soundly beaten on it noise - they are at least 2 or 3db quieter than the Vreds although again, I've yet to have the camber setup so it could be those chonking great big blocks on the inner of the tyre reacting a little differently to the more traditional pattern of the Potenza's.

Buy Buy Buy........or not actually because if they get popular the price will probably go up!! :-)

Seriously I really rate these tyres and would be quite happy to pay £125+ for them let alone £85!

Bargain buy that! Blimey....

Yes, nice looking set of rims - not something Team Dynamics are usually capable of ;)

Looking forward to fitted pics

Somewhat ironic as I have learnt that they were discontinued from their range a little over two years ago and have IMHO been replaced by the Monza and subsequently Monza R.
