When is a Roomtser not a Roomster ?

Featured Replies

Having just purchased my dads 2006 Roomster 2 1.9 Diesel from him just under a week ago i have now been made aware of a rather interesting problem surrounding the model that it is listed as on its VOSA MOT certificate (which it had given last week).

The print out contains the relevant info, except that the car is now (apparently!) a Fabia !.

Just to add more annoyance into the mix, the VOSA people now want me to drive the car to Sheffield to confirm that it is indeed a Roomster!..

Now correct me if i am wrong, but my V5 clearly states that the car is indeed a Roomster (along with chassis numbers etc), so why don't VOSA (a government agency) contact DVLA ( a government agency) to confirm details......but of course abviously this is far too simple!.

Strangely, the local dealership (who did not supply the car, but did the MOT) have very generously offered to drive the car up to Sheffield AND stick some Diesel in to cover the journey!........i get the feeling that perhaps SKODA UK have made something of a mess up with the paperwork perhaps ?

Anyone else had this happen? I guess that more may come to light as the Roomsters all begin to require MOT tests...lets just watch and see! :-)

I think someone at the dealer made a boo boo.

When we bought my wife's car the dealer managed to register it as the wrong model and the wrong colour (red instead of silver!).

You think that was your only problem Trundlenut, the dealer handed MY new Roomster keys to my wife whilst handing over the flowers!

As regards the VO5, a quick check on my papers seems to suggest that all is well. As you say lets see what the MOT brings.

I used to ride a moped with a different number plate to the V5 - one different letter, a J instead of a V. It had been on the road years when someone at the Post Office noticed it whilst writing the tax disc out. DVLC as it then was refused to issue a licence. They initially insisted on re registering the thing, but eventually after several letters & photos went back & forth they issued a new V5.

I guess there had been a typing error at some point. Years later when buying a new car, the same thing happened. the dealer registered the wrong car. I had the insurance cover note, but they couldn't get a tax disc. I was in the dealers for 6 hours whilst they ran back & forth to the Dept of Transport office in town, again one letter wrong that time due to a phone call being mis-heard.

It's why we have the phonetic alphabet!

It's why we have the phonetic alphabet!

Alpha??? Sierra??? Oh you mean A for Apple and S for Sugar

I like to make my own up like F for Fool, I for Incompetent etc...

My Mk1 VRS was originally registered a diesel Ambiente.

It was picked up by security at the Channel Tunnel, no less! All I could do was plead innocence, and they let me go.

The best I heard was "Z for Xylophone"

Interesting one this.... For what it's worth, my company's daily business involves checking basic vehicle data (VIN, reg number, engine type - that kind of data) as recorded by the DVLA (for the vehicle, not the personal info). You really would not beleive some the mistakes they make. Many of them are simply typos but on that basis it's all too easy for a vehicle to be recorded with completely the wrong engine or even recorded as a different vehicle!! On that basis it's always worth checking your V5 against the original vehicle manufacturer's documentation just in case there's an error on yours!
