Fuel pipe, repair or change advice

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have not been "hand on" for a fair few years (not allowed, company car!!), and never with the fuel system; so I am asking for advice.

Can you patch in a new section of fuel pipe when it has corroded, or is an entire new pipe required?

If so, how difficult is it to get off and fit the new one??

The felly chriscrash was touting had an "advisory" about the fuel pipe on it's last MOT.

Thanks in advance.

advisory?? dont bother till it's leaky mate... advisory could mean anything.

i dont recommend bodging fuel pipes, plus the more joins/unions there are the more likely it is to leak anyhow.. a length of kuniifer piping is only about £10 so just do it all in one go

As Tom says, never add joints to a fuel pipe.

Use kunifer for solid lines, and fuel-proof plastic for flexible ones. Any decent parts dept or motor factor will have the right stuff. DO NOT try and bodge a plastic line with wiper tubing!

I wouldn't even think of a bodge, but as I said, I haven't messed with fuel lines before; did a few brake pipes many years ago.

If the pipe is only a tenner, what other tools will I need, it is not covered in the Haynes manual; something for flaring the pipe ends I presume??

the fuel pipes are not flared at the ends, you will need the special tool for bending the pipe around tight corners too.. no doubt there is somebody on ebay that will sell it as a kit with the bender. if i recall it is 8mm OD pipe but dont take my word on it

bender :o

Ah!! A Bender!!

I had forgotten I would need that; shame I didn't keep my old one from my "conduit bashing" days.
