Octavia 2.0 PD Issue

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My Octavia 2.0 PDI 140 has started making a pronounced whistling sound under acceleration as the turbo has spooled up. This would be normal buts its suddenly got noticeably louder (unhealthily so), although there has been no drop in performance. I took it to my local chap and he couldnt diagnose the problem, so I am going to have to take it to Skoda. The car has only done 32,000 miles. My previous 04 plate did 150,000 and never sounded this bad.

Is it about to lunch the turbo? Do you think its safe to drive until Monday? My mechanic seemed to think it would be ok as long as it was driven gently. Problem is I need to take my son to Uni on Saturday which is 300 miles round trip, I dont want it to cause a major engine failure or such like. I have owned it since new, Its been serviced correctly, always warmed up before going over 2.5k RPM etc.

Thanks for any advice.

Just to clarify, this is not a normal turbo whistle, it sounds like a distant police siren which inreases in pitch to about 3500rpm then decreases above that that. My mechanic disconnected the turbo and the car ran fine without making the noise, so its definately related. I just hope its safe to drive until monday, if it caused a catastrophic engine failure, would it still be under warranty?

Thanks

Sounds like your turbo is on its way out. Mines doing just that noise at the moment. Do a search on the forum and you will see many posts describing that noise, which normally proceeds turbo failure. Keep revs low if you are driving it, and get it checked out again as soon as possible.

You have an unlimited mileage warranty for the first 24 months then its 60,000miles or 36 months after that, whichever comes first.

Provided you have had the car serviced properly you'll be covered under the above warranty.
