Claying is EXCELLENT !

Featured Replies

Hi...

Just used a Meguires Clay bar kit on my Skoda Fabis VRS and the magic black is like glass now !!!

SO EASY TOO !

I used T-Cut initially and it was VERY hard work with reasonable results.

Claying was easy and produced a glass like finish.

Dirt doesnt stick to the paint work now so its stays cleaner for longer....

GET SOME AND DO IT !!!!!!

I am so impressed, so i thought that i would share it on here to encourage others to do it. I always thoought that it was probably a bit OTT and not really necessary, but I was wrong !

Yes, I thought it was for pedants only. Bought my friend a kit for his birthday as a joke but he reckoned it was great so I tried it myself. Well worth it.

Remember that you need to give the paint some protection after claying as it will strip all the wax off. I like Meguiars Gold Class although I'm going to try Dodo Juice at some point.

It's amazing the crud clay pulls from the paint. Makes washing and waxing so much easier as well.

I just parked next to another Magic Balck Skoda Fab VRS in Costco carpark and the difference in colour was staggering !

It was an 06 and mine is an 05 but it looked almost grey with dirt and mist in the paint

:D

Hi...

SO EASY TOO !

Claying was easy

My God!! I bought some for the first time last weekend and set to on the Octy. It took me over 4 hours to clay the whole thing and my arm and shoulder ached like hell for two days afterwards!

Mine is 8 years old mind but are you sure you've been doing it right?

I did this about 9 months ago, and now I am hooked!

I've graduated to the Bilt-Hamber autowax. Its a bigger bar (200g vs 100g) cheaper (£10) and you do not have to use a special lubricant - just water from a spray mister. It is genius stuff!

and a second vote for the Meguiars Gold Class wax!

Think I am hooked now too !

Just done the wifes car tonight !...

Took me about 1.5 hrs. Its a Honda S2000 so no roof to do

I dont think it can be done "Wrong" as the paint starts off rough to the touch and ends up a smooth as silk and very shiney.

I found that providing you use liberal squirts of lubricant with the clay, then it just floats and glides around with no effort really. you can feel the process becoming smoother to more you rub over the same area.

I clayed mine in July before the Briskoda rally and it was amazing what a difference it made

I've done it again since, as I park in a dusty area and very close to the flightpath for Edinburgh airport, and even just after a few months it was surprising how much the clay lifted from the paint.

my arm and shoulder ached like hell for two days afterwards!...are you sure you've been doing it right?

Your arms shouldn't be aching. Did you use plenty of lubricant? Fnaar, fnaar.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Anyome tried using it on the windscreen...seriously. Mine sounds dead gritty when the wipers are swiping, and I'm sick of using vinegar and changing the blades.

I was thinking this very same thought yesterday !... I may well try it :)

Never used to think a black car would ever be able to look clean...

Looks great in the rain too !

I hope all these people have been at least waxing the paint afterwards :)

Yes, it works for glass. I've used older bits of clay before, when I'm cleaning the windscreen. I tend to use that, then a Glass Polish, then Glass Cleaner, then finish with an application of Aquapel. But some may say I'm overdoing it ;)

Steve

But some may say I'm overdoing it

You're overdoing it.

(sorry :) )

This may sound harsh but you can use a stanley knife blade to get your windscreen nice and flat with no dirt. Glass is much harder than steel and providing you tilt the blade it really works.

I used to work at a garage and the black marker pen and stickers on the screens of the new cars were removed this way and none were ever damaged.

..... Still gonna clay it though ! :D

Jonathan

You're overdoing it.

(sorry :) )

You end up with a really, really clean windscreen though! And with the Aquapel treatment, water gets dispersed with almost no effort. It doesn't get as dirty in the first place either, as not much sticks to it. So there is method in my (perceived) madness... ;)

Hey Wardy,

Its all in the detai ! (no pun intended.... Eeer well go on then a pun is sort of good here )

I am a "detail" type of person and life is much easier if you pay attention to the small details which make a big difference . I am with you 100% !! :)

Is Aquapel better then Rain X in your opinion ? I thought RainX was ace to begin with, until after a week my wipers started juddering in the most annoying way possible.

I'll jump in on that one.

I agree. Horrible stuff. :thumbdwn:

Nearly full bottle of it here for free if anyone wants it.

Is it better? Yes - infinitely :)

We ran a Group Buy on here some time ago - in fact I think we've run a few. And I've never seen a bad word about it. Great longevity, wipers last longer, better visibility and less use of the wipers. It's a no brainer really. Key is preparation of the glass, which led me to the process I posted about earlier

Is that available from Halfrauds too?

Nope, pretty sure it's not. IIRC, the last batch came in from the States. You'd have to do some digging as it was a while bag. Try an 'Aquapel' search on here...

Also, http://www.aquapel.com/

I'd go so far to say that Rain X has completely bollxd my screen up for good. I CANNOT get a smere free wipe, and the juddering and jumping continues.

Even new blades don't help for very long.

Maybe you should follow Wardy's 3 step plan ! :)
