'97 Felicia airbag light..

Featured Replies

Hi all.

First post so be gentle :)

My slightly battered old Felicia was broken into recently. I'm a learner driver (I'm trying!) so it doesn't get a lot of use and was sitting outside my house with a flat battery at the time - remiss of me, I know.

Now that I've charged the battery, the airbag light is on. I don't know if this is due to the battery having been flat or due to the break-in (they bent the passenger side door almost in half to nick the stereo, but I disturbed them halfway through).

Can the light be reset, do I need a main dealer to do it, and how much should I expect to pay?

Also, cheeky I know, but how can I find out the paint code for it? The sticker under the bonnet has torn in half so I can't read it - it's dark metallic green.

Any help you can offer is very much appreciated.

The airbag light will be on due to the flat battery I imagine.

It can be reset with VAG-COM which a lot of members on here have. Check on the VAG-COM owners list to see who is near you and see if they will reset it for you:

It would probably cost about £35-40 to get done by a garage so it is definately cheaper to get someone to do it for you.

They can give the rest a quick scan too to see if there's any problems underlying.

Paint code - make a note of the chassis number, and phone a handy Skoda dealer; they should sort it out for you from there.

there should also be a copy of that sticker inside the second page of the original service book if you still have it.

if you let us know where roughly you are from somebody local to you may be able to help

Sadly I don't have the original service book.. ah well, will try the chassis number option, thank you.

I can't see anyone on the VAG-COM list near me, unless anyone knows differently - I am in Worcester. Other than that, I had better get it reset by a dealer cos otherwise I won't know if the airbag itself is ever faulty!

Thanks so much for your advice, I am very pleased to have stumbled upon these forums - It's a beaten up old car with a fair few miles on the clock, but "Sherman" has sentimental value

Welcome Thorn, I am just up the road in Malvern, I dont have a felly (yet) but my son does.

I was hoping to buy one saturday, but the owner never got back to me with an address.

Hi Giant *waves*

I just spent £250 on getting mine through its MOT (tyre, wheel bearing and some front suspension work). There are bits I can do myself, but I don't have space or tools to do anything like that so it's cost me about what the car is worth. But like I say, it has sentimental value and it was a gift anyway, so it's cost me very little in the 18 months I've owned it.

Was in the street putting the battery back in, dressed in office clothes with my head under the bonnet when a chap pulled up alongside me asking if I had major trouble.. "nope, just refitting the battery now it's charged" "Oh.. right... thought you might need a hand love.. you sure about that?" Heh, nice of him to ask!

Colour is likely to be Forest Green, code 9595, spray part number HFB381035 or HFB380035 for the touch up.

Gawd, £250 to get it through an MOT, I only paid £350 for my son's....

This thread does raise an interesting point, the hand book says that the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioner system needs to be replaced after 15 years; can you still get the parts and how much does it cost??

You can still get the parts... and they're bloody expensive!

Drivers airbag unit: £397

Passenger airbag: £767!

And I can't seem to find the seat belt pre-tentioners!

TBH they will probably be fine to use after 15 years but it just a manfacturer "recomendation".

Phil

Owch!!! The drivers airbag costs more than the car did!!!
