Losing engine oil ok?

Featured Replies

Hi

I don't know if my Fabia is a Fabia I or II, but I will try posting it here, it's a Skoda Fabia Combi Comfort 16V 1.4 75HK / 55KW from 2004.

Since the last engine oil change, I have driven around 9000km and today the engine oil warning light turned on. I checked the level and it's now around minimum. Is that OK or should I be worried, I thought that the car wouldn't use any oil at all.

Does your car use oil?

Thanks

The 1.4 16v (100bhp/74Kw) can drink as much as 1 litre of oil per 1000km IIRC (as stated in the handbook). And your car is a Mk1 Fabia.

Do you have the engine code? Think it's either AUB or BBZ for the 1.4 16v depending upon age/date of manufacture. (Not to sure when they changed it, so dunno which you have.)

If it's an AUB could be the piston rings are going - it's a common fault. Mine uses about a dipsticks worth of oil every 1,000 miles or so.

Have you tried cleaning the breather in the air filter?

My 2002 AUB engined Fabia used to use quite a lot of oil until I cleaned that out and then it dropped to a more sensible level and rarely needed topping up.

Err, which bit exaclty is that? Have done the air filter itself, but do you mean the pipe leading into the airbox?

Make sure that the rubber pipe is clear of mayo, but also the plastic breather that it connects to and goes inside the air filter can get blocked up and needs to be flushed out.

Cheers, any idea how it detaches to clean it? As we tried before, but couldn't get it off, so gave up.

I didn't take mine off. If I remember correctly I just flushed it out with paraffin.

That gives me a job for the weekend then - thanks muchly!

Hope it works for you too

Check for blue smoke coming from the exhaust when you rev it
