Locking from remote doesn't work

Featured Replies

In about a year since I had the car I've had this problem twice. Once about 3 months ago and then again yesterday. I get out of the car, push the button on the remote to lock the car, nothing happens. Even if i go around the car, go inside, keep pushing, nada.

Then I lock it by key, manually, leave it for 3-4 minutes and everything starts working again.

Any idea what's going on?

ps: remote battery was changed about 9 months ago.

Two things to check......

Does it only seem to affect one button? If so it could be that button that may be at fault (One of the buttons on the mrs' remote fob is sometimes a little tempremental.)

Also when it occurs do any of the other buttons work? Even though the battery was replaced recently the battery could have been faulty or there could be a dodgy battery contact etc.....

Cheers

Dave.

It affects both buttons and the led on the remote lights up when pressing the buttons, just the car doesn't lock/unlock.

Had the same problem on my sisters Leon and we've replaced the battery in the fob loads of times with no success, the dealers reckoned it was the reciever in the central control unit, and the unit would need to be replaced and key re-coded. The price of that has put her off though so she's had to live with only being able to lock & unlock it with the key in the door :(

Could be a faulty microswitch in the door lock. All sorts of problems can occur when they have an intermittant fault.

Is there any difference if you press unlock before lock when it's playing up?

I don't know if there's a difference, but I know that I have a faulty microswitch in the driver's door. Actually I turned off the open-door warning light in the dash because it would light up when going over bumps. Didn't know that the microswitch had anything to do with locking though... I mean, I would imagine that it would at least TRY to lock the doors, but mine does nothing at all.

Again, only had this problem 2 times in about a year, so not a big thing, just though there might be some obvious reason.

The microswitch is almost certainly the cause. It won't try and lock the doors because it thinks the driver's door is open.

I have the same problem!! how much is a micro switch and is it a big job to change?

There used to be a DIY on vwvortex, look for it, it was pretty thorough and didn't seem like such a lot of work.

  • 1 year later...

micro switch diagnosis new thread started

Thanks
