No more skodas for me................

Featured Replies

Test drove Octavia MkII Diesel VRS with flappy paddle DSG thingy yesterday.

Lovely looking car imho, all the bells and whistles maxidot, blue tooth, satnav etc, DSG provided surprisingly smooth gear changes much better than any other auto I've driven, but I have to admit I thought it was absolutely gutless. Put my foot down and bugger all seemed to happen. It felt like I could have got out and pushed it faster.

I know I'm not comparing like with like, I've had my little furby remapped and that goes like the clappers for a little diesel. Problem is yesterdays drive has put me right off the Octy, and I already think that the Fabia II looks like a girls car.

I have to say I'll be looking for another make/model when I do decide to get a new motor.

Is it just me or have Skoda ruined their own customer base??????? Has anyone else thought this????????

I think the car you tested would have been the CR engine which being common rail is smoother than the PD engine you have in your Fabia.

There may be no sudden push but if you look at the speedo you may be surprised.

The Octavia is way more refined than the Fabia so this will also be a factor.

I think the Octavia is fantastic and cant wait to get hold of one. I dont think for one second they are slow.

Maybe the one you tested was still a bit tight

Diesel, innit?

Was it a very new car? They do get noticeably quicker with a few miles on.

As has been said, the Octavia is a bigger car and will always feel smoother, added to that the more refined power deliver of the CR engine/DSG box and it all comes together to make a great A road or motorway cruiser.

Having driven remapped Fabias and judging by your location, the same CR DSG vRS I can only say that they are very different cars. If you're looking for a direct replacement to your remapped Fabia then you will be disappointed!

As for your comments about ruining the customer base......Only Fabia vRS owners who don't have a similar TDI Fabia to replace their vRS with are currently dissapointed.

Skoda are selling more cars than previously, so everyone else must be happy!

Skoda have not lost their customer "base", your driving a re-mapped vRS "skoda" didnt intent your car to have that much power, so you've created your own base. The Octavia vRS DSG CR is 170ps get a manual and re-mapp that then you'll create your own base again!

Sorry boys, but I also drive a Volvo V70 estate D5, and I'm not looking for something that feels slower or less refined than the car I shift furniture in. I'll just keep the furby for now and look for something else.

Tend to disagree with you.

The vRS was sold as practical but exciting remember ? Keep that in mind.

Plus, what do you really want that's gonna be much faster, unless you got serious cash to burn?

Just a turn of comparison but being a Volvo owner, I can guess the next reply:

A £2k Triumph bike like mine was, will at 0-60mph in 3 seconds will crap all over any car you get anyway ( and feels quicker from outside) so unless you decided you do have that money for supercar performance after all ? I just have this for "fun", maybe it teases those who think they really are quick.

Its all relative. What is the Volvo D5, is that meant to be quick ?? 185bhp - my Triumph has stock 135Bhp in just a 900cc engine lol

I do agree about the fabia II styling though - quite narrow, and it would have been nice to see a rapid and similar release of the vRS equivalent

I think the Octavia vRS would be a lovely car to own, really quite quick, or quick enough for this size of motor, don't really see the problem you have with it really. I'd have one in a moment....if I have the money. Equal size as the other barges, nice inside though, probably quicker than most Passat's etc.

But if you prefer modded keep the original Fabia as a cheap thrill, its certainly good value, or you won't have any trouble selling it.

I agree with this, when I moved to the fiat from the vRS, (the fiat is 1.9 CR (multijet) ) I thought I'd made a big mistake, as it felt soooo slow, but its just a feeling, at the next meet when driving "briskly" with fabia vRS's it proved to be just as quick (as I'm sure the guys from last weekends NW meet will agree :D) , but its smooth, without the sledgehammer band between 2-4k.
