40,000 mile service report

Featured Replies

Have hit the 40,000 mile mark in my Fabia's life (July 07 birth) and just picked up from the service. Bill came to £244 which included a brake fluid change and also some work done under warranty - rear brake cylinder weeping (I think - paperwork being sent later so will check)

As for the car can't fault it. No other problems, drives well and doesn't drink too much fuel.

For comparison the service prices paid are:

10k - £207.25 (later reduced to £127.25)

20k - £253.85

30k - £82.13

40k - £244.39

First two were at Robert Bamford (Glos) and second two at Grey Gables (Oxon). Needless to say it won't be going back to Robert Bamford!

Nice one, seems to be a reliable motor, which spec and engine size is it?

It's a 1.4 TD Level 2 so not only has it been reliable but also cheap to run, tax and insure.

Quite interesting to compare insuring this (Group 3) to my wife's Toyota Yaris (also Group 3) as the Fabia quotes were always cheaper - not by much but enough to make me notice!

my 30k is due, where did you get that done for £80?

Yes - Grey Gables (Škoda - Retailers - Grey Gables Garage) and been more than happy with their customer service. In a slightly sleepy part of the world but helpful and efficient and seem to pride themselves on a low labour charge.

There seems to have been lots of confusion around what should be done at a service and the price that should be charged so no idea how these prices compare to what others have been paying...not that there can be many Fabia II's that have had the 40k service!

Can't remember the price of my 40k service even though it was two months ago but I did have a fault with the rear brakes fixed under warranty. Also had to have the front pads and discs replaced.

How are you doing with tyres? I have been through one set of fronts and the rears are just about to need replacing.

Definitely the best VAG car I have owned. it just feels so much more reliable and solid than the MkIV Golfs I had and equal to the S60 Volvo I had before it.

Be interesting to watch and see if others get a fault with the rear brakes - the service manager said it was unusual and didn't normally see anything like that until around 80k.

First set of front tyres were replaced around 24k and I popped one of them on a very nasty bit of kerb the week later :(

Think there are a couple of mm left in the fronts now and the rears don't seem to be going anywhere fast.

my passanger side brake light keeps blowing, replaced it 3 times so far! as well as 5 windscreens! but auto glass and skoda both say that there isnt a fault! i must be one unlucky person!

Mole...regarding your brake light bulbs blowing, it is almost certainly a poor earth or bad connection...probably intermittent caused by vibration. Check your earth and use some vaseline on the connector where it joins the body and goes into the light unit. Have a good wiggle of all the wires going into that light unit too. It will eventually show up. Sorry to the original poster for bumping this thread.
