pickup shaking sensation

Featured Replies

Hi,

my girlfriend has a 1.6 pickup from -98 with a minor problem.

when I pickup speed (regardless of gear) and keep pressing the throttle at about 100km/h-125km/h (55mph-65/70mph) the frontend shakes BADLY. as soon as I stop pressing the accelerator the shaking is gone. it is only while I press on the gas it shakes.

I think it comes from the right hand side, there is almost no shaking in the steering wheel.

The shaking makes it unpleasant to overtake for example lorrys on the motorway, which is really annoying. otherwise it is a really nice car.

btw, I live in Sweden, that's why I state the speed in km/h.

also... is the pickup identical to a standard felicia under the bonnet? (engine/gearbox/steering/brakes/springs/dampers and so on)

hope for a simple solution....

Hiya, if the vibration is speed dependant, but not gear dependant, it's pretty much got to be in the final drive, drive shafts, brake parts, wheels and tyres.

Have any of these been replaced or had a hefty bang recently?

To be honest I haven't got a clue... as stated it's my girlfriends car (I drive an octavia -08) I'll try and put on the winter tyres next weekend to see if that changes the issue.

I'm leaning towards the driveshaft since it is only under acceleration this occurs, not when you drive at a constant speed, but want as many oppinions as possible.

final drive, is that hard to replace, or is it the entire gearbox that has to be torn apart?

You'd probably get other noises if it was the final drive; I mentioned it for completeness, because a noise like this has to be road-speed related.

If it's the driveshaft, then proably either there's a torn CV joint gaiter, or the balance weight is loose. Physical examination is the only way of determining which if either.
