Free MP4 to WMV converter?

Featured Replies

I downloaded some YouTube video clips yesterday for my wife to show at school in support of geography lessons but the first lesson bombed when she discovered that the clips wouldn't play on her school PC. I belive that the solution is to convert the .mp4 clips to .wmv so that they will play on Windows Media Player (WMP) which is on that PC but I can't find a free MP4 to WMV converter. I tried ImTOO's MPEG encoder which is dead easy to use but the trial version will only encode 3 minutes max and the basic version costs $35 to register - too much for the task at hand. Can anyone recommend a free converter, please?

My second question is: Why will Windows Media Player 11 on my PC play .mp4 files but the same programme on my wife's laptop won't?

Might be a question of her not having the right codecs installed.

Probably the best of the codec packs -

Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 5.1.0 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 5.1.0 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 5.1.0 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools

Free converter (and much more), very good
