Massa is claiming the Renault 'staged crash' cost him last years years F1 title. I seem to recall that he drove down the pit lane with the fuel hose still attached and I think that might have scuppered his race.

If Massa looks back to last season he got away with a pit lane incident in Valencia, where he should of been given a drive through penalty and he gained four points more than Hamilton at Spa, where he should have dropped a further four points behind him. Then in Japan, after knocking Hamilton out of the race, he collided with Bourdais and Bourdais was demoted, giving Massa an extra point.

Technically yes, without the crash there would have been no fuel rig incident.

so you reckon without Piquets 'accident' Ferrari's (feckin useless) semi automated pit light system would not have failed and massa would not have driven off with a fuel line flailing around...... Personally i think it is stupid to call it either way. There is no way any of us could know what would of happened. If the crash never happened, he may well of come in for his scheduled pit stop and the same thing happened? who knows......... as Moley said, it's all swings and roundabouts......

as i seem to remember saying last year, Ferrari seemed almost determined to throw away Massa's championship hopes. They continued to insist on using the stupid pit light system even though it had cost them dearly (two?) times previously. All in the past now though..... I would of been very happy for Massa to have been crowned WDC last year, i certainly wouldn't be happy to see the results all changed over a year later for him to be crowned the champ though.

I hate sportsmen crying over spilt milk. Hamilton could equally complain that he only won the championship by one point because one of the mechanics girlfriend was in a snotty mood - which upset the afore mentioned mechanic and he didn’t do a very good job at one of the seasons race meets. If only the also afore mentioned girlfriend had been in a more pleasant mood then the mechanic would have done his job better and Hamilton would have gained more points because he had a faster car. etc etc etc etc etc etc

I would like to see the complete interview to get the whole thing into context........somtimes these journos can "bait" their "prey". It doesn't sound like something Massa would say (with much thought anyway). I am a lifelong Tifosi and I would be disgusted if the 2008 WDC result was changed because of what happened in Singapore.

I don't see what changes you could make other than to DQ the Spaniard, and move 2nd thro 9th up a place in the points.
