Reverse gear selection clunky/tight

Featured Replies

Hi. Our 206 '56 roomster is great except that today my wife mentioned that the reverse gear selection was a little "rough".I had a go and found that the selection was a little "notchy", as though you could feel the cogs meshing as they went in.I realise that there is no synchro on reverse or first, but as the car is only 3 years old with under 17'000 miles should i be bothered and have it checked or not ? The warranty expires in 7 days !. Andy

I would

Yes - get it checked out. The symptoms you describe are typical for a clutch that is not disengaging fully. It may only need some sort of adjustment. Incidentally, there should be synchro on first! The apparent absence of it is further indication of clutch malfunction.
