No Fuel Gauge or Trip Computer

Featured Replies

Hi All.

Hoping someone on here can shed some light on my problem that im having at the moment.

The story so far, I managed to put half a tank of petrol in  but lucky enough realised before starting her up :).

Managed to drain the fuel via the intank pump by putting a direct feed from my amp in the boot.

When I plugged the pump back in the fuel gauge went to half full then back down to zero, went back to the petrol station and filled up, still nothing.

Iv tried cleaning the connectors on the plug and pump, checked all the fuses and still nothing.

Iv also changed the intank pump with a second hand unit at still nothing.

Anybody got any suggestions on what could be the problem???

Thanks In Advance

Andy

Not sure if the fuel level sensor is built in the pump( some modern motorcycles have this),or a separate unit?.If you drained the tank fully,I wonder if the fuel level sensor is 'stuck' in its lowest position?. A position which it never gets to in normal refill operations, because there is always a few litres left when the tank is refilled?. Either take the car over a bumpy road (not hard to find these days!). If no change I would carefully remove the sensor ,and check its operation by hand. You might find it will start to work correctly on its own ,with just using the car.

I have no real idea either, but like above.. if the sensors gone all the way down then perhaps it's re-set it's calibration? I read on here that they calibrate them with 5L in the tank and maybe going below this resets the calibration.. I think someone with VAGCOM might be able to re calibrate?

thanks for the input so far and that was really my next step to get it plugged into a VAGCOM

As far as I was aware the sensor for the level of fuel was apart of the lift pump sender unit??? maybe with this being unplugged for so long with a direct feed to the pump maybe this needs re-programming back to the ecu??

VAGCOM tomorrow so will update then.

Thanks

Andy
