1.8T RS or 1.8 vRS (2004) ?

Featured Replies

The dealer confirmed today that I can take delivery of my Octavia vRS this Saturday (23rd Oct), and has given me the details of the number plate.

Just called Direct Line to insure the car and was asked whether the car was a 1.8T RS (group 71) or a 1.8 vRS (2004 model) (group 77) ?

Explained to them that as far as I know the vRS hasn't changed since its launch in 2001, and that even though my car will be a 2004 model it is the same as the 2001, 02 & 03 models ?

Was told that I could choose which category it is insured as, so preferably would choose the lower group. I was told that this wouldn't be a problem, but what do you think ?

Thanks

no problem at all. they are one and the same car - no idea about the groupings though.

originally as you know it was sold as an RS but changed soon after when Ford got snooty. both mine were registered with DL as the former, ie. 1.8T RS.

Can only think that Direct Line are a bit confused and one is the hatch and one the estate? When I was trawling for quotes and put in the Reg that was the usual option that came up on sites. Can't think of anything else

UK insurance groups only go to 20 AFAIK.

The Octavia RS is group 16 / 17 if my memory isn't fuddled.

Logbook says Octavia RS ;)

no geoff, your memory is perfectly unfuddled! RS Octy is group 16.

This is now reflected in my user title :D

The insurance groups quoted are DLs own groups which they use, which I'm guessing run from 1 to 100. Both specs were quoted as 5 door hatchbacks.

I think they are a bit mixed up, I asked them hypothetically how would I insure a 2003 vRS, and they said that since it couldn't be the 2004 model then it would have to be a 1.8T RS.

I will go with the lower group as they have assured me that I will be fully covered.

Thanks for the speedy replies.
