Symphony radio code memory

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I purchased a Skoda Fabia 1 on Saturday. The guy I bought it off had a Sony head unit in it and then fitted the standard unit in when I purchased it.

It comes up with 'SAFE' every time I turn it on. So I read the instructions and plugged in the radio code and pressed 'LEARN'. Then I was able to use the head unit as normal.

However every time I remove the keys from the ignition it doesn't store the code so I end up having to put it back in every time I start the car.

Any idea where I'm going wrong?

Thanks, Warren

For the sony to work, he would have had to swap the switched and permentant 12v supply (by botching the cars main wiring by the sounds of it. My guess is he forgot to switch it back again. If you swap the supplies round then your symphony will be fine.

If the wiring has not been botched then you may find an ISO adappter lead thats been left in place that can simply be removed.

Thanks for the quick response. I will remove the headunit later and have a look.

The wiring needn't of been botched though.

It is very easy to remove the pins from the wiring block and swap them round - this probably hasn't been done though as most people are lazy, but it takes no longer to do it correctly.

he might have even left an adapter on the end of it, ive seen that done loads of times

I pulled out the head unit to find a stray black wire coming from the black connector. I take it it is this wire that has been 'botched' to fit the Sony head unit.

Does anyone know which wire it is likely to be? I will get some photos up when I get home.

Thanks :)

Stray black wire wont help, I think thats the "K" line as its called. the connector on the headunit may still have the remains of the other end sticking out.

I was meant to put blue  (not that it helps)!!

I will post some pictures and take a look at that link when I am home.

Cheers

Sony head units use a yellow and red (as do most) that will need switching. If it stays that colour on the cars loom I don't know.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this as i have exactly the same issue with the Symphony I have put in my furby, as a straight swap for the Sloda MS402 originally fitted?

I've looked at all the other threads about this failure of the radio to keep it's code and have tried all the igniton on/off radio on/off combinations, and can't seem to cure it.

I'm wondering if it's because the symphony is expecting a code from my ECU, and as it is an older ECU it doesn't support that.

Might haveto go to the stealers for a really cheap fix i suppose:rolleyes:
