potential new octavia scout owner

Featured Replies

Hi All, never owned a Skoda before but am thinking of buying a new octavia scout from main dealer in Inverness.

Took one out for a test drive, a 12 month old demo car and it was pretty good (2 litre tdi) but I thought it was a bit noisy. Are they all like that?

The scout seems reasonable value and decent spec for the money.Any advice or pitfalls would be appreciated.Checked out the dealer reviews on the forum which is a bit depressing but I guess all makes of dealership have good and bad reviews.Living 35 miles from Inverness means they are the cost effective dealership to attend to servicing so it may be a case of hope for the best.

Cheers all, Robgree.

Its me again, sorry I forgot to ask if anyone can give me an idea of fuel consumption for the scout 2litre tdi 140 bhp.I know much depends on how heavy a right foot each driver has but a rough idea of legal speed, sensible, motorway cruising figures would be helpful. The brochure reckons combined at about 44mpg, any thoughts please?

Thanks guys, Robgree

Welcome :)

Hello and welcome :)

Hiya.

Try a test drive in an Octy (scout or otherwise) which has just had an oil change. Mine gets noticably more tappetty when cold as it approaches service time.

Thanks KenOneill,

The Octy scout I took for a test drive was a dealer demo car for sale and had just over 10k on the clock.I suspect it hadn't been serviced as the dealership would look to do that as part of a package for a new purchaser .It was tappety so old cold oil may be the answer.

Generally people seem pleased with Octavias which is comforting,

Haven't finally made a decision to buy but the scout in satin grey seems a fairly decent motor.

Cheers, Robgree

welcome along

I have 2007 2.0TDi 4X4 (not Scout) 16 inch alloys=all 5, rear parking and cruise control. I bought it at 17000 because I wanted this model/spec (DPF, ESP 4X4, etc.) and the new CR engine is a year away so saw no point in full new price for the older engine.

I did not need even more height (and therefore more wind resistance and worse handling...) and hated the trendy bits!

I like it a lot and it suits my needs which includes lots of long distances surveying, with equipment. Engine IS more noisey at start-up and when accelerating but just a diesel when cruising 'Briskly'.

Fuel consumption is a few MPG/CO2 worse due to more height and (rear drive) weight at mid-high 40s... Power delivery curve is a bit peaky and it takes a while to master and drive smoothly...I'm contemplating a Celtictuning 'economy/smoothness' remap after being very impressed with that on a colleague's VRS.

Go for long life synthetic oil service deal. See posts about separate dim/full headlights too.

Buy one? YES!
