Protecting new wheels

Featured Replies

Hiya detailing guru's...

I'm after a bit of advice with regards protecting a set of brand new wheels and tyres ive just bought off wheelbase... (needed new tyres all round really, so thought be better to get a set of wheels for not much more :) )

So before they go on.. i want to make sure they're protected as best i can against the elements... I have the following at my disposal...

Collinite 476 (not really sure if this could be used or not really?)

Werskat Prime all in one

And i could get the Fk1000 i guess?? Or just use one of the wheel sealants available from either poor boys or CG

Next question should i bother giving a wash first with them being new, and what about a quick clay :rotz:

be grateful for info as soon as poss... as they are already here :D

I would definitely wash first - to get rid of any grease / dust / other muck picked up during transportation and/or tyre fitting.

I did a bit of research on this subject when I got my new wheels and CG Jetseal 109 seemed to get the best reviews so thats what I went with.

Chemical Guys - Jetseal 109

Its been on a few months now and the wheels still clean up well when I wash them.

would it be advisable to use APC on them too then.. to help remove grease etc

if so just what mix ratio should you use it on wheels at? i guess that depends on how dirty the wheel is to a certain extent.

cheers

lee

ps nice added touch the wheel's have come with skoda auto centre badges, in silver/ black :)

Jetseal 109 all the way, works well duration wise and I just use some Megs APC on my polished wheels which brings them up a treat........

There is a 1:1 ratio and 4:1 ratio and I use the later........

1st stage of prep before putting on is complete...

Rinsed, Washed, Rinsed, used APC and detail brush, Rinsed again, Waffle weave towel dried...

took inside... few tiny drops water residue remained, so got these with softer detailing towel

As i dont have the jetseal (yet) i am going to at least get a coat of Werskat Prime on them :) better than nothing, and may delay putting them on the car until jetseal arrives... :o dont know yet haha

i've given in and spent even more on detailing products  its got to be well over £300 worth now ive spent over the last year... are we mad :o

jetseal... and a few other bits on order from CYC ;)

ive just removed my wheels on my 06 vrs ,i used bilberry wheel cleaner to get all the dust and grime off with autogylm brush then i cleaned them with carlack68 which did a brilliant job of removing all the tar and dirt on the inside of the wheels then i put a coat of collinite 476 on.

they have come up really glossy and seem to be keeping cleaner they also wash very easily now with a wash mitt.

i was toying with the idea of some special wheel wax but just decided to use what i had in the garage.

i also cleaned my green calipers up and gave them a coat of carlack68 look fab now, should have took some pics but was already getting strange looks for having the car up on axle stands in the dark and working using a worklight.

apparently im a geek , but what do wifes know eh!
