Octy RS Lecky windows & mirrors

Featured Replies

 Should I be worried?

I have noticed my electric windows and mirrors behaving... differently of recent times. The auto-up feature used to work when the switch was pushed firmly upwards - the window would close fully. Always..... until recently  . Now it is picky, and only fully closes intermitantly.

The mirrors are a bit of a puzzle too. The conroler has L, heated mirrors, and R positions, and (again) used to work logically - L = Left mirror only; R = Right mirror only. But not anymore! Now they work as follows: L = Left mirror only, and R = Right & Left mirrors together!

The window problem goes and comes, but the mirrors are now working "wrongly" on a full time basis.

I had a cosmetic repair (ahem!) done to the drivers door a few months back, and am wondering if the problem could be down to the wires being put back incorrectly by the body shop guy?

Any gems of wisdom would be appreciated

The mirrors have allways worked like that, its in your manual. Its so another driver can quickly adjust the mirrors if they are a different height, notice how the n/s mirror works the other way to the drivers one. Pointing in together.

Does your window go up and then back down again?

To re-program the One Touch hold the switch in the up position with the window fully up for a couple of seconds, you should hear the motor click, thats One Touch reset.

On my Mum's Fabia, the mirrors work that way (and the controller indicates L & L+R). My mirrors are behaving that way now, whereas until the body shop repair, they definately worked as indicated on the RS mirror controller (i.e. L = Left only, R = Right only)

Nope..... but I think you hit the jackpot below..

Will try that in the morning :o

Have a look in your handbook mate, Octavia mirrors deffo work both mirrors when R is selected, have a search on here also, it has been discussed.

Dont know how different the European spec differs from the UK spec (2002 model), but I have heard the Octy RS didn't come standard with the driver's (centre) armrest in the UK, whereas it was standard on the Euro model???

I actually went back in the dealer when I picked my vRS up, as the mirrors were working as yours are now, and I thought it was a fault...that's deffo how they are supposed to be.

Edited to say:Mine also is labelled as L, Heated and R...not L+R.

Cheers

I reckon it is a simple wire adjustment..... for someone with tools, knowledge, a wire tester, and elecrical know-how, but alas, I posess none of the above.

Just to let you know that my mirrors work in the same way. They allow for quick adjustment. This not a fault with the car or the dodgy repair job you had done!!!!! :)

Pre-facel lift Octy had different markings for the mirrors but then work the same as post face lift.

L just adjusts the L and R adjust L+R.

Makes alot of sense, its usually due to the roll back feature picking up a resistance on the window. If re progaming the window doesnt sort it try cleaning up the runners a little with some silicone spray (back to black will do). This should help the window slide up.

I've tried silicone spray and it hasn't cured mine. It seems like a few people have experienced this.

Have you reset the window?

Have you reset the window?

Using the key, fully up hold and fully down hold method ?

If so I have tried this a few times.

Hold the window switch up when the window if fully up until you hear a click.

Hold the window switch up when the window if fully up until you hear a click.

Never heard that one before, I must try it. Is that different to the one that sets the limits with the key (you don't hear a click this way)?

my windows keep doing this and keep reseting them and a few weeks later it'll do it again but i haven't lubed the runners, i'll do that when i get it back and about the mirrors. they are right, thats the way they work. bit of a pain when you don't know thats how they work and you keep adjusting the mirros wrong

Thats the way mine work now.... but for the last two years, they worked logically (L = Left ONLY: R = Right ONLY).... Weird ****.....

  • 4 weeks later...

Mine has this problem too - I shall try the reset method in the morning and let you know how I get on.

I asked about this when I picked up my Octy...

The L wqorks the left and the R works bot right and left (thats how it should work). Apparently its for ease of use when parking at kerbs and tight spots.

As for the windows...this never happened to me....but saying this will only make it happen.. :)
