Noisy fan

Featured Replies

My passanger side fan by the window started makeing an odd noise when it's on. How do I check for leaves before I take it back fir skoda to have a look? Cheers

Hi Mole,

I have had the exact same problem with mine.....The noise was worst in level 1.

Took it to dealer and they had experienced the problem a few times before. After having changed the filter, they chanced the vent. motor but without any improvement. Then they waited for help for Skoda Denmark, and decided to change it once again...... Nope no improvement.....

I suggested that it might be related to the regulator since the noise was worst at level1 and then declining though the 2 other levels.

After having the car in 2 days they changed a ballast/resistor ( not sure if it´s correct name for it...:o) and then it helped some. It was back to an acceptable noiselevel.

Just to round the story off, they scratched my steeringwheel, so they agreed to change it. I left my car at the dealer at night, and received a call from them the following morning, that my car was standing on 4 boxes without the wheels.. They had also broken into the car, resulting in a damaged door.

Bye bye BBS.....:thumbdwn:

So all in all it has been a terribel month.

Hope this helps you in troubleshooting on your car.

Bgds Dan

the noice doesnt change in volume depending on setting. also ive tried directing the air out of differnt holes and it still makes the noice. so i dont know if the motor is in the dash or not but i think that must be it TBH

I havent really checked on the Fabia II, but this was a common problem on the Fabia I. Is the fan behind the glovebox still? Turn the ignition on, set the air to re-circ, a little flap will open. Turn the ignition off and let the fan stop. Get into the passenger footwell, stick your hand up behind the glovebox (the glovebox may have to come out) and you should be able to get your hand into the fan intake and pull out any leaves, if that is the problem of course.

Should be same as Fabia 1 as far as I'm aware. The glove box drops off quite easily just half a dozen torx screws and you can place it out of the way. Take care of the cable connecting the glove box light though. You have to reach behind the fan casing to get your fingers into the fan.

Worth putting a dust sheet on the footwell to catch any debris. Take the pollen filter out and give it a brush off with a soft brush and few light taps to clear out any leaves stuck in it. Takes a few seconds only to remove, once you get the hang of the clips. New filter element is just a few pounds in any case.

I have to do mine several times a year - lots of trees where I live.

If you use the search facility in the Fabia 1 section it will throw up a number off 'How to's' some with photo's.
