Dimming door mirrors?

Featured Replies

In the absence of anything else to tinker with and retro-fit I am thinking of adding auto-dimming door mirrors to my Octy. Has anyone fitted them already?

Does anyone know when then Octy was available with BOTH exterior door mirrors that have the auto-dimming function?

If anyone has ETKA and knew the part numbers then even better!!

Cool, I'll see if my dealer can dig out some numbers and prices for them. I've got the dimming interior mirror, might as well get the doors working as well for winter I think.

I think the glass for the dimming mirrors are £100+ each!

Holy ****t - better drive carefully then!

Thats no surprise, I didnt expect them to be cheap. I do a lot of motorway miles, especially in the evenings so it will be worth the effort and expense for this I think.

The dimming interior mirror is something I'd never be without so it'll be nice for the side ones to also dim.

I'd say the outside mirrors are miles more useful than the interior one. That I can just flip up if need arises, but the dimming outside mirrors are gold.

Don't forget that with the mirror adjuster set to R, both mirrors move so you can just tweak the adjuster down to get rid of the glare on both mirrors......

I agreed though, dimming door mirrors would be good too. I've got the dimming interior mirror so I'll be interested to see how this thread goes., keep us posted Keith.

Certainly 2005 - 'cos both my door mirrors auto-dim...

You know it's the rear view mirror that has the sensor? As in the door mirrors only go dim when it's switched on, on the rear view mirror - so you'd need that too.

....yeah, I know - I'm trying to teach granny to suck eggs here! :o

Maybe it's standard on the L&K but doesn't appear to be on my 57 VRS with auto dimming internal mirror Simbo

I would agree that it's a fantastic thing to have though as I had a Laguna Initiale (rubbish car but mega loads of gadgets) and that made night driving better.

The vRS in terms of trim is Ambiente spec as standard but with fancy seats & bumpers - all the goodies could be added as options though - plus there were offers on like Jumbo box + Climatronic (+ ??extras) from a while back...

AFAIK even on the L&K, the dimming/heated door mirrors were dropped from 2007 on the pre-FL & only recently re-appeared with the FL?!

Hmm. I got the jumbo options freebies pack but can't remember ever seeing the dimming door mirrors as an option. I've just checked a 10/2007 brochure and it doesn't mention the L&K with dimming mirrors (as you rightly thought) - only tinted mirrors. Likewise I don't think that they were in the FL brochure but the SUK site isn't letting me download a current brochure at the moment to check.

Maybe, on reflection () the tinted mirrors are lulling you into a false sense of reality....

Should be fairly straightforward when I have sourced the mirror glasses, I've done it before (not on a Skoda though) and its not too bad. I am busy with work for the next 2-3 weeks so I will tackle this in late Oct/early Nov.

Tilting them down helps, but then I'm not able to catch a quick glance before overtaking, or similar. Even if I can still see something in them, I have to consciously process it, as the image is not what I expect to see.

Just got this from the newly uploaded Octavia brochure at SUK:-

Electric memory driver’s seat and electrically adjustable,

heated and foldable door mirrors with auto dimming

and memory function. £475

Maybe the price is why I blocked it from my mind :D

My 06 Elegance had a dimming interior mirror but not the wing mirrors.

I've ordered this pack on my new car as I simply couldn't do without them now. I've heard a rumour on here that you only get auto dimming on the driver's side. If that ends up being the case, the car will stay with the dealer unsold.

Worth it... hotty-botty for starters, cold mornings & its bliss!!

As long as you don't forget you've turned the heaters on and wonder if the warm botty is due to another involuntary action :eek::rofl:

Gold? The auto dimming mirrors on both sides of my L&K are blue, but I have got to be honest, the idea of having to spend £100 on a glass is scary! Looks like if one breaks it needs to be someone elses fault!

Yeh, that's right. But come to think of it, people the likes of Paris Hilton would be all over golden autodimming mirrors.

Keith here are the part numbers, please check with the dealer before ordering though....

RHD Left Tint Mirror 1Z2 857 521 H

RHD Right Tint Mirror 1Z2 857 522 H

I also have the procedures for removing the wingmirrors/glass let me know if you need them.

Just wondering though, the mirrors tint using some sort of electrical signal I assume, so will there be another type of connection needed? I've looked through ETKA and can't find a different type of connection, maybe its just a connection to an empty pin??

Edit: Just checked up the prices on those, they're €49.70 each, but there is a G part which is €199.00.....I'm not 100% on what the 1Z2 857 521G is?

More Info

I'm guessing the less expensive ones are the plain blue tint, and you need the 200euro a piece item, which is more similar to the prices I've heard around here.

But where would the externals ones connect into? Does it have to be wired into the interior mirror?

Either directly into that or a control box along the way.

SIMBO you're a perv mate!!

I would dearly love to have folding mirros and would pay pretty much whatever it costs............

Right here's the info on the G's

Anyone know what the "F 1Z-62124 377" (and the one after it) are?

It doesn't seem to be a part number?

Ought to be a part of the VIN, methinks.

Noooo.... He used the word gold as a figure of speech - as in, he meant: they are invaluable or priceless, not meaning that his dim in a gold colour!

Ah all is clear now, I remember the old dears had new fancy double glazing once (many moons ago), and caught in the light at the righ angle it reflected a gold colour, thought the two might be related, obviously not, lol
