Who has got the Best Deals on Octy II Vrs Insurance right now?

Featured Replies

I know this is probably one of those questions that comes up time & time again...but..

Has anyone phoned around all the 'usual suspects' for their renewal recently (due Nov) -

I've a 56 plate Tfsi - with about £2k of extra's including Xenons, rev sensors, the 'free' upgrade pack etc etc. No performance mods etc. Previous experience tells me that if I want 'full' cover - only the broker type boys can do the business (properly!) - all the onliners, don't want to know, won't cover the extra's (factory fitted or not !!!) etc etc.

In previous years I've had quotes from Brentacre, Flux, Knott & Sky (+ all the others that I probably won't bother with this year!)...but who is coming out on top right now?

I''ve Full NCB, late thirties, No claims - for as long as I can remember...& now only doing about 5-6k a year in this car ( we have an MPV for the weekends !!!!) Last renewal was under £300 - which I'd like to think wouldn't be breached this year !

we tried them all, adrian flux came up with the best deal, chris knott best price but all details not clear, went with flux for this reason vrs octy 2

try flux, knott, brentacre and skyinsure. I went for brentacre in the end.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Should have said - I am with Brentacre (for the 2nd year)...but had to go thro' the same carry on as some others - price was higher, but almost matched another in the end...and it was less hassle to swap.

I'd try the same 4 or 5 as a default anyways.

Too many factors that differ between drivers to say who's the best for you against someone else.

Always shop around.

I am with Bell, try them. You dont need to use brokers, its a pretty common car.

im with swift cover 23 5yrs ncb reasonable postcode and its £391

Thats not bad.

Mine was £430 all in and all mods declared with Adrian Flux. Chris Knott was cheaper but as already mentioned not all details were clear.

I'm with Hastings. Lousy postcode full ncb and business user. Around £500. Over 39.

Near Sutton Surrey, Class 1, full NCB, 31. Got quote of £300 from Bell for when I change to vRS estate DSG petrol. Swift told me they don't cover the Octavia vRS.

Thanks for all the replies folks -

I will definitely be sticking with a broker, even if the result is a slightly higher cost - they state all the extra's that your likes of Swift, Admiral, MoreThan etc want to class as 'mods' (I know there will be numerous opinions on that - but it's a fact - & sadly some will only find that they are not covered once it's too late) are covered & will be replaced like for like if damaged etc.

I personally don't see the extra's as mods - but if they do...and won't cover them now or in the event of a claim, then there is no point of insuring with them.

I hear what you are saying about us all being individuals etc...just wondered if there was a trend in the quotes folks were getting - I'll try the big 4 or 5 mentioned on here.

Mods and extras are differant, in that case almost all cars are modded. A modded car means its changed after production. All the insurances companies I've ever used (change ever year) list things like chipping, spoliers, tinting etc... Never things like leather seats or sunroof! I think if you say its modded, they will just wack it up "to be safe". The insurance covers all factory fitted equipment, check your certificate, the problem with forums and the web is it can make you paraoniod, Admiral wanted to charge me £60 more for having stickers in the window!

Directline class factory mods as OK, so long as declared. Just switched after them being competitive for the first time ever in my driving history.

for me it was Aviva. £100 cheaper than everyone else (incl Flux etc). Cant argue with that! :)

I've a L&K but with the power of a tdi vRS terrible postcode, business use & 25k miles plus koni fsd's and I'm mid 40's. £570! with a broker. didn't try those listed above. might have been cheaper. AA was about £200 more.

Never even bothered with them, as they farm everything abroad - even quote lines, which if you have mods or leased car, you are forced to use. :(

When I changed car the other week, I got a quote off Admiral (moneysupermarket) for £286 (protected, business use, legal etc....) cheaper than what I paid for my remapped 2L tdi elegance. I am with Chris Knott and was halfway though my year for the old car. So they near enough matched it! cost about £25 extra - admin fees. If I moved to Admiral I would still had to pay those fees so stuck with CK.

Might also depend on the person you get on the other end of the phone.

But there was a clear message at renewal in the last 2 years - any change from the standard spec - performance or otherwise - in their eyes is 'modified' - & even when declared in some cases - didn't guarantee that they would pay out in the event of a claim (that included Direct Line - so unless they have changed their policy).

I know there are various opinions on this on here...and maybe I should bow to those with much more knowledge/experience than me...however, I am sticking with the brokers who will confirm in writing, that it's all covered etc etc...even if it does mean a few extra £ to cover.

Meantime, thanks for all the tips on who's worth checking out.

I've got both our cars with Admirals Multi Car policy. For the 2nd year running they were the best when taking into account the cost of insuring 2 cars, could be worthwhile checking out given you've got an MPV as well. In their view if its factory fitted then its covered so no drama at all regards the optional extras issue.

You guys must have some lovely postcodes. I'm with Chris Knott, 28 years old, 6 years protected NCB, 12k mileage inc business use, no accidents, endorsements or mods and it's over £600 for me on the TDI with the wife listed as a named driver (which brought it down by the same amount protecting the NCB made it go up by. I think my post code must equal Beirut.

I remember when we moved here from York and it went up £200 straight away on an old M reg Pug 405 TD. :(

Postcode, where parked, employment, mods, current theft rates for type, previous losses and business factors (ie choosing not to want a certain group of cars/drivers) all affect premiums on a daily basis.

You guys are lucky... my insurance is £800 plus over here in Northern Ireland and that's just for an Elegance.

Mine was £495 this year for public hire, 9 years ncb protected, from patons Glasgow

Getting my FL Tsi Vrs remapped on Thursday and have got a new quote from Direct Line. Renewal is due at the end of March, remap only puts it up by £38 for the rest of the year. Renewal quote should be around £380 ish which I think is very good.

we were with esure but they were lazy this year and wanted to put the premium up 30 or so quid and wouldnt budge so we shopped around and more than came in at around 320 quid

we are both 39 full no claims, we have pleasure and business and a 100 quid excess

when we got the new car there was a 22 quid change which was more than acceptable and still cheaper than lazy old esure
