Remap Qestion No 8429

Featured Replies

Morning all.

Been having a look about for a remap. Have seen that there is either a generic or custom maps. Looking at some of the comments made, my understanding is the generic map is for people who just want a bit more power without knowing the ins n outs where as custom is for people who know what they talking about. That would put me in the generic map catagory. :o

Promblem i have now is i dont know who to get to do the remap. Some say Jabba others Aewsome with a few mentioning other companies. Whats the difference between them all? What makes Jabba better then Aewsome or vice versa.

Should mention its a 55 (Jan 06) vRS with 30k. Only mods are coilovers and Jabba RARB

Thanks Mark

Generic maps are the same on each car and will show a noticable improvement over standard but won't get every last bit of power from the engine.

Custom maps are just that - made specifically for your car. As a result they can take into account any variation in the engine as it came from the factory (as they aren't all exactly the same) , any extra mods you've got on the car , and also how you want the car to drive.

If the car is otherwise standard then a generic map makes sense.

Generic map = Software update to the car. The diligent and responsible will ensure it's working properly beforehand and afterwards and throwing to ECU codes etc. Generics are based on the hardware of the standard car, particularly the turbo and "raise the bar" a tad.

Custom typically caters for those who have made more extensive mods. Typically, a larger turbo (usually with a larger/better intercooler and a higher rated clutch) that spools differently and boosts across a higher rev range. Custom maps require a degree of guesswork to obtain a baseline. Then rolling road runs are done to assess the suitability of the map to the hardware. The map is usually tweaked to obtain the safest, best performing result.
