YETI Roadtest on Honest John

Featured Replies

Think HJ liked it! Seems to have more than adequate performance plus good ride etc. I'll be looking for a vehicle that can take dogs, plus cope with Peak District weather, in the next six months, so Yeti might be a possible, although there is also the Octavia Scout. Spoilt for choice!:rubchin:

Will it perform as good as my current Mk5 Golf GTi, I doubt it.

Will it be fun to drive, I'm sure it will.

Will it get up my snow covered drive, or hills on the way home...I do hope so (GTi is well rubbish).

Am I still going to buy a Yeti...a def YES when the 140TDi or 1.8TSi DSG version come on line....

After picking up brochure from Newbury dealer, an SE spec with a few options will suffice, but it's got to be DSG, which will be the fourth DSG equipped car we have had in the past 5 yrs....

The Scout is great but the Yeti has a 'trump card'; off-road button, useful in snow as well.

Unsure whether the Scout has steel under-trays but you can specify them on Yeti, the rough road pack also includes some suspension and brake system protection as I understand it. Recommended as the standard plastic can get damaged quite easly and can be costly to replace.

Regard the road test; engine sounds great, wish SUK had not priced the 1.8TSI so close to the TDI 140, therefore making it financially non-viable in the UK.

I relise this is a test and an engine still being run-in but 24.64mpg is a bit scary, my previous Golf 2.0 TDI PD 4motion very rarely dropped below 45 and often gave 50+ on a long run.

Seems to shift pretty nicely watching that video!

I wouldn't worry too much about his claimed MPG, he was driving it pretty hard. I would take more notice of what people are getting in "real life" once they start to get delivered to customers in the UK, although I must admit on paper the MPG of the 1.8 does put me off a little bit.

so Yeti might be a possible, although there is also the Octavia Scout.

Check out todays In Gear section in Sunday Times. Clarkson really rates the 1.8TSi Octavia Scout - gives it 4 out 5 stars!

I test drove a 1,8 TSI 4x4 last week. I had it from one day to the next, and drove about 260 km's. Most of it highway driving in 6th gear following the speed limit of 90km/h thinking of fuel economy most of the time. I had planned on ordering a Yeti with the 1,8 TSI engine, but I have to admit I'm a bit put of by the lousy fuel economy. In the 260km's I drove, the car averaged 0,83 litres pr 10 km's or 34mpg. The car was brand new, so it will probably loosen up a bit and deliver better mileage after a while.

I absolutely loved how the petrol engine performed, but I'm not sure about the consumption.. It costs almost excactly the same as the 140hp TDI here in Norway, and as a bonus the TDI engined car can be had with a diesel powered parking heater which I'm really keen on.

The Yeti was great in most other respects, the bi-xenon headlights were great, gearshift good and gear ratios were well chosen. Very nice with the panorama roof, Instruments and controls were well laid out.

The only thing I'm not sure about is: the seats (lacking side support) , fuel consumption in the petrol engined car, and finally the fact that it's not possible to turn the ESP system completely OFF (for som fun in the snow in the winter) This will be the same on Octavia built after week 45, so buying a Scout for some sideways action in the snow is not an alternative :( All the ESP off button does after week 45 is disable the ASR system to allow a bit more wheelspin..

Yes, I've seen his piece. If Clarkson likes it, I worry! But not a lot, either way:) Think the Scout might be more use when we have to transport 2 Boxers occasionally. Usually just 1, but daughter also has a Boxer, which we baby-sit from time to time. Need a bit of space, otherwise I could use a Mini Cooper happily. :D

Yes, but its only std with timer, the remote control is extra at about 10.000 NOK.

The timer incorporated into the Maxi-Dot will do just fine :) I'm sure I can retro fit the remote if needed :)
