Grettings, all:

Lately, the rear window wiper on my W-reg Octavia estate has been jamming intermittently and today the wiper stopped moving and the motor appears to be overheating (hot plastic smell and the area feels hot). I've taken out the fuse.

I need to find out how to remove the trim on the rear door and would appreciate any info.

Also, has anyone else had trouble with their car's rear wiper?

I had to remove mine to hoover out bits of glass following rear window replacement. If I recall correctly you will need to ease 14 clips loose from the securing plastic grommets fitted in the door frame. Start at one corner of the trim and, if you don't have a trim removal tool (basically a flat strip of metal with various-shaped notches in it), use a large-bladed screwdriver or similar to gently lift the trim away from the door frame. It's much more straightforward than it sounds.

Not uncommon for the motors to seize due to lack of use.

I've located the problem.

After I took off the trim (a fork handle poved best) I fopund that there was a small fluid leak from the rubber joint which connects the wiper fluid line to the nipple on the wiper assembly; the joint has hardened. The assembly shows signs of fluid damage and is, I guess, corroded internally. The wiper motor has overheated and the cap carrying the end bearing has melted. New assembly required!, and all due to a samll piece of rubber tubing about 10 x 5 mm.

Incidentally, the boot lock assembly is showing water damage but I think it can be saved.

does anyopne know of the cost of a replacement rear wiper assembly(octavia hatch)?

mine has decided today that its not getting enough use,and would stay on for the day,removed trim and found the flexy hose leaking,removed the motor to take a peek inside and found this :

looking at that i'd say its lunched,so cleaned it all out ,sprayed lots of WD40 to get rid of the water,re-greased it and then re-fitted it.

didn't make one bit of a difference :thumbdwn:

part number is 1 U6 955 711 B.

even more bizzarely the multi changer has started working again :confused: :confused:

Lift the carpet under the changer and check for water damage to the connector.

No prizes for guessing where that comes from :(

Dunno if its worth a try but I found that the electric windows on the sisters Fiesta needed the solder joints on the internal motor connections touched up after it failed to work. I know its different in your case but might be worth a shot.

spot on denis.think its going to be much cheaper to bung the hole,not as if i use it that much anyhow.car needs a service and cambelt soon ,so its on the back burner either way.unless i can find a cheap second hand one

One from a Fabia might fit?

got one from an estate at a local breakers,made sure i took the arm too .had a feeling it was going far too easy,and then noticed that they are different wipers and washers too.so the estate arm did come in useful.

i have a smaller wipe area now but a slightly longer blade might help this.

but not bad for 25 quid
