Just noticed it has Toyo Proxes R32s too - are these any good?

Didn't even know they made that type of Proxes! Apparently OE on Mazdas though! Look fairly standard, kinda like a Conti CS2/3...

They seem ok, but depite some spirited driving, even I'm not brutal enough to explore the limits with 200 miles on the clock!! :rofl:

Someone mentioned the tyres and all I could find was Camskill did them but 'marked' for Lexus.

Had a good look round the Sport in a dealer yesterday. Can't believe they've ditched the spare wheel and put the BOSE sub in the spare wheel well and stolen 2" from the floor of the boot - seriously small boot now.

Also can't believe how small the 18" wheels look in those arches. 18s on the mazda 6 look better suited than the 3.

I meant the one I was looking at yesterday :P

As for the spare wheel, salesman told me the bigger petrol sports didn't come with one :rotz: due to exhaust system taking boot space. Didn't sound right to me but there we go. Good to hear you can get one in there with the Sub :)

Anyway, I've fallen in love with a black mica 6 Tamura :drool: as the 3 will be too small for me in future.

Was a 2 litre petrol sport in the dealer showroom. Was 95% sure it had 18s as I checked although 17s should be on the Sport.

Well my first tank returned 36.5mpg, although it was really only just over half a tank - but thats calculated brim to brim. The display was reading low 50s!! I've calmed down a bit now, having the occassional play, but hoping for a long term average of mid/high 40s, which I think is achievable...

The trip computer seems a long way out, so I turned to the handbook. It says that mpg is calculated from fuel used and distance travelled since the car was built, so it will always increase in accuracy. It also says to make sure you always put atleast 10l so it has enough to calibrate. It only updates the display once a minute, but it must be done on injector cycle or similar, with the fuel/distance calculation used to improve calibration, so hopefully it will get more accurate over time :)

I've also been enquiring about the iPOD integration. Its £160 for parts, and 2-3hrs fit, although the supplying dealer said they could do it for £220 fitted. I'm a bit concerned I'll have rattles or scratches on the dash afterwards, and £220 is a lot of money, so its something I need to think about. It is nice though, as track/artist/playlist info shows up on the satnav screen, although unfortunately the artwork doesn't :(.

I might be as well to just set up more playlists and use the aux in (3.5mm jack in the arm rest) for the time being.

Sounding good Tom. On the iPod integration, if it's £160 parts, that's £60 on that price to include fitting. Seems very reasonable if it's going to take 2-3 hours. That said that's a fair bit of cash in parts for the integration, if most of the tech is already there? What are you actually getting in parts for £160?

Yeah, I agree £60 for fitting is good, but thats after some serious haggling with the supplying dealer - most are quoting £350+ :eek:

You get an "integration module" circa £100, and a "wiring harness" circa £60. I think the harness differs depending on whether the car has Bose and/or Nav, hence it being a separate part.

Book time is apparently 1.5hrs, but as with a lot of book times, they aren't exactly generous apparently.

The thing is, it has a 3.5mm jack in the arm rest, and a 12v socket, so I could get a charger, an iPod to 3.5mm lead (allegedly better than 3.5mm to 3.5mm) and be done with it. Likewise it has full MP3 functionality (and WMA) for the 6CD changer, so 6 fully loaded CDs should be good.

I really would like the full integration though to gain steering wheel controls, full functionality, iPod charging and of course the Track/Artist etc info in the sat nav screen (although sadly not artwork).

I am finding (does this sound right ??) this thread re your new Mazda really interesting.

One of the cars I was considering prior to getting my 2nd VRS early this year was the "old" 3 MPS but sadly encountered hopeless customer service from my local Mazda dealers (West Mids). which really put me off the brand. Now that the new 3 MPS is out I have started looking at them again. However, no doubt the fuel consumption would be a bit less than I am now used to ?!

So thanks again for the updates and I will be looking forward to reading any further info about your opinions of your new 3 sport.

I think the mpg on the MPS is on average, low 30s, high 20s if you like to "make progress" ;) Mid-high 30s with very steady driving on a run.

The new Mazda 3 is a massive improvement over the old one in just about every way. It feels really modern, really well screwed together, great specs etc etc, certainly worth considering!! :thumbup:

i usually get 31ish on the motorway 24-27 on urban roads

best ive had is 38 being reaaaallly careful

usually have to fill up every 250 miles :o

If you were getting 31 on the mway leaving the Fox last meet I'll be really surprised :D

Well mpg is improving, as is trip computer accuracy. Now a shade over 1k on the clock, and with a good mix of very spirited driving, town stuff and a mix of a/b roads thrown in, the trip computer said 45.1mpg, and an actual return of 41.7mpg. Looks like high 40s long term is going to be achievable. :)

Certainly feels a bit looser now, and the engine seems quieter too, really am enjoying the car.

Need to get started on the mods/accessories now though ;):D

Yeah, will most likely bite the bullet. Managed to get a dealer advertising on the Mazda3forums down to £200 fitted, and a good discount on other accessories too. At £200 its still a lot of wedge, but I do miss having proper ipod integration!
